Rhondda Cynon Taf
Rhondda Cynon Taf, or RCT, is a county borough in the South Wales Valleys of Wales. It consists of 3 valleys: the Rhondda Valley, Cynon Valley and Taff-Ely Valley. Results from the 2001 census showed 21.1% of its 233,700 residents were able to speak, read, write or understand the Welsh language. The county borough borders Merthyr Tydfil and Caerphilly to the east, Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan to the south, Bridgend and Neath Port Talbot to the west and Powys to the north.
Cynon Valley
Cynon Valley is one of many former coal mining valley within the South Wales Valleys of Wales. Cynon Valley lies between Rhondda and the Merthyr Valley. Cynon Valley has two main towns; Aberdare located North of the Valley and Mountain Ash located in the South of the Valley. According to the 2001 Census, the Cynon Valley has a population of 63,512. In 2001 12.1% of the inhabitants were recorded as Welsh speakers, where as today are probably more.
