Llyn Mair

Llyn Mair (Welsh for 'Mary's lake') is a 14-acre artificial lake located at SH652412 in North Wales. It lies in the area of Tan-y-Bwlch, a little above Plas Tan-y-Bwlch, and is in the catchment area of the River Dwyryd. It was created by William Edward Oakeley (of Plas Tan-y-bwlch) as a 21st birthday present to his daughter Mair and as a water supply. The lake is set alongside the B4410 road, a minor road linking the village of Rhyd.

Vale of Ffestiniog

The Vale of Ffestiniog is a valley in the Snowdonia National Park in Gwynedd, North Wales. It stretches from Blaenau Ffestiniog in the east and runs in a westerly direction towards Tremadog Bay, terminating near Porthmadog. The Afon Dwyryd runs through the Vale; pastoral farming is practised along its length. The Vale is chiefly famous for the Ffestiniog Railway, a narrow gauge railway line running from Porthmadog to Blaenau Ffestiniog.

Ceunant Llennyrch National Nature Reserve

Ceunant Llennyrch National Nature Reserve is one of several woodland reserves in the Vale of Ffestiniog in Gwynedd, Wales and runs from Trawsfynydd Lake to the River Dwyryd, near the village of Maentwrog. The reserve’s broad expanse of woodland coats a spectacularly steep gorge, through which the stunning Afon Prysor waterfall cascades. At one point, the river is flanked by one hundred feet (30m) high cliffs, which face each other only 10 metres (35 feet) apart.

Coed Camlyn National Nature Reserve

Coed Camlyn National Nature Reserve is a nature reserve located south of the village of Maentwrog in Gwynedd, Wales. Rising steeply from the River Dwyryd valley floor, the reserve forms part of the extensive and dramatic wooded landscape of the Vale of Ffestiniog. Numerous species of woodland birds breed here, and the cliffs at the top end of the wood provide good nesting places for ravens.

Coedydd Maentwrog National Nature Reserve

Coedydd Maentwrog, on the north side of the Vale of Ffestiniog, is the largest wood in the Vale (which runs from the coast at Porthmadog inland to Blaenau Ffestiniog in Gwynedd). The National Nature Reserve consists of two separate sections: Coed Llyn Mair, and a group of three forests (Coed Ty Coch, Coed Bronturnor and Coed Glanrafon). It offers a variety of habitats, rising from the wooded valley onto open moorland and reaching towards the foot of Moelwyn Bach mountain.

St Twrog's Church, Maentwrog

Saint Twrog’s Church is in the village of Maentwrog in the Welsh county of Gwynedd, lying in the Vale of Ffestiniog, within the Snowdonia National Park. It is in the Deanery of Ardudwy. A church was founded on the current site in the 6th century by Saint Twrog. It is believed that he was the son of Ithel Hael o Lydaw of Brittany. He was also the brother of Saint Tanwg of Llandanwg, Saint Tegai of Llandygai and Saint Baglan of Llanfaglan and Baglan.
