Corris Railway
The Corris Railway is a narrow gauge preserved railway based in Corris on the border between Merionethshire and Montgomeryshire in Mid-Wales. The line opened in 1859, and originally ran from Machynlleth north to Corris and on to Aberllefenni. Branches served the slate quarries at Corris Uchaf, Aberllefenni, the isolated quarries around Ratgoed and quarries along the length of the Dulas Valley.

The Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT) (Welsh: Canolfan y Dechnoleg Amgen) is an eco-centre in Powys, mid-Wales, dedicated to demonstrating and teaching sustainable development. CAT, despite its name, no longer concentrates its efforts exclusively on alternative technology, but provides information on all aspects of sustainable living.
Llwyngwern railway station
Llwyngwern was a station on the Corris Railway in Wales, built to serve the hamlet of Pantperthog and the residents of Plas Llwyngwern, where a daughter of the 5th Marquess of Londonderry lived with her husband. Although the Plas was in Montgomeryshire, the station was across the Afon Dulas in Merionethshire. The station was built at Llwyngwern, rather than at Pantperthog, because there is a very tight bend and a steep gradient on the railway at Pantperthog.
Maespoeth Junction
Maespoeth Junction lies to the south of Corris in Gwynedd and was where the horse-hauled tramway (known as the "Upper Corris Tramway") from the slate quarries around Corris Uchaf met the main line of the Corris Railway coming from Aberllefenni. The name, which translates as "Hot Field", is shared with a nearby house.
Braichgoch Slate Mine
Braichgoch Slate Mine was a large slate mine located in Corris Uchaf, north Wales. It was worked continuously from 1787 until closure in 1970, apart from a hiatus in the 1900s. Most of the surface workings of the quarry were removed as part of a road widening and landscaping scheme in 1983.
Abercorris quarry
The Abercorris quarry (also known as Cwmodyn) was a slate quarry worked between the 1860s and the early 1950s. It was located at Corris Uchaf about 5 miles north of Machynlleth, in Gwynedd, north-west Wales. The quarry was connected to the Corris Railway which carried its products to the Cambrian Railways at Machynlleth for distribution.
Garneddwen
Garneddwen is a hamlet in the south of the county of Gwynedd, Wales. It lies in the valley of the Afon Dulas in the Meirionnydd area. It consists primarily of a single row of terraced houses, built for the workers at Aberllefenni Slate Quarry. Nearby is Fronwen, built as a family home by the quarry manager Robert Hughes (1813–1882) and his wife Jane (1822–1906).
