National Assembly for Wales
The National Assembly for Wales (Welsh: Cynulliad Cenedlaethol Cymru) is a devolved assembly with power to make legislation in Wales. The Assembly comprises 60 members, who are known as Assembly Members, or AMs (Aelod y Cynulliad). Members are elected for four-year terms under an additional members system, where 40 AMs represent geographical constituencies elected by the plurality system, and 20 AMs from five electoral regions using the d'Hondt method of proportional representation.
Wales Millennium Centre
Wales Millennium Centre (Welsh: Canolfan Mileniwm Cymru) is an arts centre located in the Cardiff Bay area of Cardiff, Wales. The site covers a total area of 4.7 acres . Phase 1 of the building was opened during the weekend of the 26–28 November 2004 and phase 2 opened on 22 January 2009 with an inaugural concert. The centre has hosted performances of opera, ballet, dance, comedy and musicals. The Centre comprises one large theatre and two smaller halls with shops, bars and restaurants.
Atlantic Wharf
Atlantic Wharf is a southern area of the city of Cardiff, Wales. It is primarily an area of new houses and apartments located on the west side of the disused Bute East Dock and to the east of Lloyd George Avenue. It also includes a number of refurbished dock warehouses, modern hotels, the Red Dragon Centre and Cardiff Council's County Hall. Atlantic Wharf lies in the Butetown electoral division of Cardiff and the Cardiff South and Penarth constituency for the UK Parliament/Welsh Government.
Cardiff Bay Opera House
Cardiff Bay Opera House was a proposed centre for the performing arts in Cardiff Bay, Cardiff, Wales, conceived in the 1990s as a crucial part of the Cardiff Bay redevelopment project. One aim was of the scheme was the creation of a new home for the Welsh National Opera company, which was then based in the New Theatre in Cardiff. The Wales Millennium Centre was built in its place and it opened in 2004.
Senedd
The Senedd, also known as the National Assembly building, houses the debating chamber and three committee rooms for the National Assembly for Wales in Cardiff. The 5,308 square metres Senedd building was opened by Queen Elizabeth II on 1 March 2006 and the total cost was £69.6 million, which included £49.7M in construction costs. The Senedd is part of the National Assembly estate that includes Tŷ Hywel and the Pierhead Building.
County Hall, Cardiff
The County Hall is the head office of Cardiff Council (formerly South Glamorgan County Council), located beside the disused Bute East Dock in the Atlantic Wharf area of Butetown, Cardiff.
Tŷ Hywel
Tŷ Hywel is named after Hywel Dda (Hywel the Good) and is used by the National Assembly for Wales, Cardiff, Wales. Previously it was known as Crickhowell House and was named after Lord Crickhowell. It is also informally known as the Assembly Office and houses Assembly Members of the National Assembly for Wales and their staff, and staff of the Assembly Commission. The Welsh Government also operates from the building and occupies one floor.
A4234 road
The A4234, also known as the Central Link Road, is a spur off of the A4232 in Cardiff, the capital of Wales. It links the southern part of Cardiff city centre to the motorway network. The length of the A4234 is just 1.45 km and is entirely a two lane dual carriageway with clearway restrictions. The road was opened on 16 February 1989.
Red Dragon Centre
The Red Dragon Centre is an indoor entertainment complex in southern Cardiff, the capital of Wales. It was originally known as the Atlantic Wharf Leisure Village, when it opened in 1997. The complex features restaurants, cafés, a Hollywood Bowl with arcade amusements, an Odeon multiplex cinema, a casino and an on-site car park. It is located in the Cardiff Bay area, opposite the Wales Millennium Centre. This is close to the A4232 and near Cardiff Bay railway station.
Cardiff Docks
Cardiff Docks is a port in south Cardiff, Wales. At its peak, the port was one of the largest dock systems in the world with a total quayage of almost 11 km . Once the main port for the export of South Wales coal, the Port of Cardiff remains active in the import and export of containers, steel, forest products and dry and liquid bulks.
Craft in the Bay
The Craft in the Bay Gallery is an exhibition and craft retail area located at the south end of Lloyd George Avenue, Cardiff Bay. It is operated by a charitable arts organisation, The Makers Guild in Wales. The gallery is opposite the Wales Millennium Centre and close to the Welsh Assembly Building. The building consists of the award winning refurbished “D” Shed, a grade II listed maritime warehouse together with a modern extension.
Roath Lock
Roath Lock is a television production facility in the Porth Teigr area of Cardiff Bay. The studios house BBC drama productions including Doctor Who, Casualty and Pobol y Cwm. The centre topped out on 20 February 2011 and filming for such productions commenced in autumn of the same year. The facility is located on a development site known as Porth Teigr, which includes a proposed 40,000sq ft digital media centre and an interactive exhibition titled Doctor Who Experience.
