Hall of Clestrain

The Hall of Clestrain in the parish of Orphir, Orkney, Scotland, was built in 1769 for Patrick Honyman. It featured in the second series of the BBC TV series Restoration. It was the birthplace of the explorer John Rae and was visited by Sir Walter Scott in 1814. It was intended that the building would form the centrepiece of a proposed Orkney Boat Museum although these plans are in doubt following an unsuccessful bid for support from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Cava is an uninhabited island in the Orkney archipelago in Scotland. It is 107 hectares in extent and rises to 38 metres above sea level. The literal meaning of the name is 'calf island', a terminology often used to designate a small island near to a larger one. Cava is unusual in that it includes a small peninsula joined to the main body of the island by a narrow isthmus, which is in turn called 'Calf of Cava'. It is situated in the Scapa Flow just offshore from the much larger island of Hoy.

Scuttling of the German fleet in Scapa Flow

The scuttling of the German fleet took place at the Royal Navy's base at Scapa Flow, in Scotland, after the end of the First World War. The High Seas Fleet was interned there under the terms of the Armistice whilst negotiations took place over the fate of the ships. Fearing that all of the ships would be seized and divided amongst the allied powers, the German commander, Admiral Ludwig von Reuter, decided to scuttle the fleet. The scuttling was carried out on 21 June 1919.

Located at 58.8917, -3.18333 (Lat. / Lng.), about 2 miles away.
