Rosslyn Chapel
Rosslyn Chapel, properly named the Collegiate Chapel of St Matthew, was founded on a small hill above Roslin Glen as a Catholic collegiate church (with between four and six ordained canons and two boy choristers) in the mid-15th century. Burdiehouse
Burdiehouse is an area in the south east of Edinburgh, Scotland, near Gilmerton and Southhouse. Its name is often said to be a corruption of Bordeaux, as a result of settlement in the area by French immigrants associated with Mary, Queen of Scots, but this is by no means certain. Modern Burdiehouse is an area with high levels of poverty among residents. The Burdiehouse Burn (known elsewhere as the Lothian Burn, Niddrie Burn and Brunstane Burn) flows through the area.
Wallace's Cave
Wallace's Cave is situated in Roslin Glen, in Midlothian, Scotland. It is also known as Hawthornden Castle Cave, after Hawthornden Castle which is nearby. It takes its name from William Wallace, the Scottish national hero, who participated in the Battle of Rosslyn, which took place close to the cave on 24 February 1303. 8,000 Scots, led by John Comyn, faced an English army numbering 30,000. This Battle ended in victory for the Scots, and gave the country new hope for independence from England.
Battle of Roslin
The Battle of Roslin was a battle of the First War of Scottish Independence, taking place on 24 February 1303 at Roslin, Scotland. It is the subject of an extremely highly-coloured account written by Walter Bower in the mid-15th century which bears no relationship to the contemporary evidence. The battlefield is currently under research to be inventoried and protected by Historic Scotland under the Scottish Historical Environment Policy of 2009.

Bilston, Midlothian
Bilston is a small village in Midlothian, Scotland, just south of Loanhead on the A701. It is next to Bilston Glen industrial estate. Bilston Burn is a tributary of the River North Esk. It flows east from the village, and is classified as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). A proposed bypass, taking the A701 east of the village, was put forward by Midlothian Council in 2000, and is included in the development plan.
Mavisbank House
Mavisbank is a country house outside Loanhead, south of Edinburgh in Midlothian, Scotland. It was designed by the architect William Adam, in collaboration with his client, Sir John Clerk of Penicuik, and was constructed between 1723 and 1727. The first Palladian villa in Scotland, it is described by Historic Scotland as "one of Scotland's most important country houses". The house was altered in the 19th century, but suffered decades of neglect in the 20th century.
