Fernieside
Fernieside is a suburb on the southern edge of the city of Edinburgh, Scotland. It is very close to Craigour, which is just to its north and Ferniehill to the south. The suburb is 4 miles (6.5 km) southeast of the city centre. Laid out as public housing from 1947, many properties have been sold through right-to-buy legislation, while small private developments have been inserted to the north in the early 21st century.
Gilmerton Cove
Gilmerton Cove is a series of underground passageways and chambers hand-carved from sandstone located beneath the streets of Gilmerton, an ex-mining village, now a suburb of Edinburgh, Scotland. A five-year collaborative project between Gilmerton Heritage Trust and The City of Edinburgh Council allowed the newly-restored Cove to open in 2003 as an educational resource for the community as well as a fun place to visit. There are many theories about the origins of the Cove and its purpose.
Craigour
Craigour is a district of southeast Edinburgh, Scotland, next to the A7 (Old Dalkeith Road). It is surrounded on the east by the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary just across the A7; on the north by Liberton Golf Club; and on the west and south by the districts of Moredun, Moredunvale and Fernieside. The Burdiehouse Burn flows through Craigour. Craigour, for such a small area, consists of widely varying house types. There still exist some prefabs built in the 1950s.

Gilmerton
Gilmerton is a one-time coal mining village, now a southern suburb of Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland. It is south-west of Danderhall. Its name derives from a combination of Scottish Gaelic: Gille-Moire - a personal name and later surname meaning 'Servant of [the Virgin] Mary', from which we have the first element, Gilmer, - and Old English: ton, 'settlement, farmstead'. Versions of the name can be dated from the middle of the 12th Century.
Little France
Little France is a suburb of Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland. It is on the A7 approximately 4 miles south of the city centre. The area falls within the parish of Liberton in the south-east of the city. It acquired its name from members of the entourage brought to Scotland from France by Mary, Queen of Scots, who took up residence there. The French left the city following the Siege of Leith under the terms of the Treaty of Edinburgh.
Moredun
Moredun is a district of Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland. It is east of Liberton, while Craigour is situated just to its north. Originally called Gutters and later Goodtrees, the estate was renamed Moredun in 1769.
Simpson Memorial Maternity Hospital
The Simpson Memorial Maternity Hospital, named after (Sir) James Young Simpson, was the first purpose built maternity hospital in Edinburgh. Later, Simpson's name was perpetuated in the Simpson Memorial Maternity Pavilion which was incorporated into the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary and has now been relocated to the new Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh in Little France on the southern outskirts of the city.

The A772 was a major A road located in Edinburgh, Scotland. The A772 was originally the A7 before a major renumbering of the roads into Edinburgh and also begins there, at a junction with the A701 in the neighbourhood of Nether Liberton. From this junction, the A772 heads south-east through Gilmerton, a suburb of Edinburgh. This part is known as Gilmerton Road and has a 30 mph speed limit.
