Montrose Basin

The Montrose Basin is part of the estuary of the South Esk forming a tidal basin near to the town of Montrose, Angus, on the east coast of Scotland. The nature reserve in this embayment internationally important for Pink-footed Geese, Red Knot and Common Redshank and is nationally important for Common Shelduck, Wigeon and Common Eider Ducks. It is also popular with Mute Swans, Oystercatchers and Northern Lapwings as well as smaller birds.

Sunnyside Royal Hospital

Sunnyside Royal Hospital was a psychiatric hospital located in Hillside, north of Montrose, Scotland. The hospital was originally founded in 1781 by Susan Carnegie as the Montrose Lunatic Asylum, Infirmary & Dispensary and obtained a Royal Charter in 1810. The original building was situated on the Montrose Links on a site bounded by Barrack Road, Ferry Road and Garrison Road.

The Stone of Morphie is a standing stone about 700 metres west of the Coast Highway bridge of the River North Esk and 400 metres east of the historic Mill of Morphie in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Alternatively and historically, the monument is sometimes known as the Stone of Morphy. The stone is approximately 3.5 metres high and is unshaped and uninscripted; the base of this stone measures approximately 70 by 100 centimetres.

Montrose Museum opened in 1842 in Montrose, Angus, Scotland. Montrose Castle

Montrose Castle was a 12th century castle built in Montrose, Angus, Scotland. Montrose was created a royal burgh by King David I of Scotland in the 12th century. The castle, once a royal castle, was built as a motte and bailey castle. King Edward I of England accepted John Balliol's surrender of Scotland at the castle on the 10 July 1296. The castle was destroyed by William Wallace in 1297. The castle was noted to be in ruins in 1488. Nothing now remains above ground.
