Mearns Academy

Mearns Academy is a secondary school in south Aberdeenshire, Scotland serving Laurencekirk and the surrounding areas (St. Cyrus, Marykirk, Fettercairn, Auchenblae, Luthermuir, Edzell Woods, Fordoun and Edzell). The school building was the former primary school before it moved and now has over 600 pupils. Currently, plans are being drawn for a new school as the conditions have been seen as unacceptable to councils. A plan includes the school to be built in the current playing field.

Milton Ness

Milton Ness is a coastal landform along the coast of the North Sea approximately two miles south of the village of Johnshaven, Scotland. This headland feature includes a red sandstone cliff formation. Certain prehistoric features are found in the vicinity of Milton Ness, including the Stone of Morphie located somewhat to the west.

Lauriston Castle, Aberdeenshire

Lauriston Castle stands on a clifftop site near the Aberdeenshire village of St Cyrus and just over a mile inland from the North Sea coast of Scotland. Once a royal fortress, it can claim to be one of the oldest privately owned and inhabited castles in the region. By tradition, it was the stronghold of Giric, Grig or Gregory the Great, one of the last of the Pictish kings (AD 878–889).
