Borsdane Wood

Borsdane Wood is an Ancient Semi Natural Woodland in the Metropolitan Borough of Wigan and Metropolitan Borough of Bolton, Greater Manchester, England. It is believed to have been continuous woodland cover since before 1600 AD and is composed of native tree species that have not obviously been planted. Borsdane Wood was designated a Local Nature Reserve in 1986 covering a total of 37 hectares (90 acres). and is protected.

Empress Mill, Ince

Empress Mill, Ince was a single storey shed mill alongside the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, spinning cotton in Ince, Wigan, Greater Manchester, England. It was operated by the Lancashire Cotton Corporation from the 1930s and passed to Courtaulds in 1964. Production finished in 1975. It was the last mill in Ince to close, despite the intervention of Member of Parliament Michael McGuire, and a debate in the House of Commons on 20 March 1975.

Haigh Hall

Haigh Hall is a historic country house in Haigh, Metropolitan Borough of Wigan, Greater Manchester, England. It has been designated by English Heritage as a Grade II* listed building. The hall, built between 1827 and 1840 by James Lindsay, 7th Earl of Balcarres, replaced an ancient manor house and was his family's home until 1947 when it was sold to Wigan Council.

Whelley railway station

Whelley railway station was in Whelley, Wigan (now in Greater Manchester, England) on the Whelley Loop section of the Lancashire Union Railway. The station is believed to be one of the shortest lived passenger stations in the country, opening at the beginning of 1872 and closing in March of the same year. The goods yard remained open until the Whelley loop closed in the 1970s. There is a now school called Canon Sharples C. E Primary School next to the loop line.
