East of England

Newmarket Rural District
Newmarket was a rural district in Cambridgeshire, England from 1894 to 1974. It surrounded the town of Newmarket, in Suffolk, on the north, west and south sides. The district was created in 1894 as the Cambridgeshire part of the Newmarket rural sanitary district (the Suffolk part becoming Moulton Rural District) It was abolished in 1974 by the Local Government Act 1972 and went on to form part of the East Cambridgeshire district.
Railway stations in Newmarket
Newmarket railway station serves the town of Newmarket. All trains serving it are operated by Greater Anglia. The first railway station in Newmarket opened in 1848 as the terminus of the by the Newmarket and Chesterford Railway. A second station opened along with the final section of the Ipswich to Ely Line in 1879. Newmarket Warren Hill station, built by the Great Eastern Railway, opened 6 years later, which was followed by the only remaining station which was completed in 1902.

Godolphin Stables
Godolphin Stables is a thoroughbred race horse stable built next to the Bury Road in the horse racing town of Newmarket, Suffolk in England. Built by Frederick Stanley, 16th Earl of Derby and originally known as the Stanley House Stables, it was acquired by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum's Godolphin racing operation and renamed Godolphin Stables. The name refers to the well known horse Godolphin Arabian, one of the first Arab horses to come to Britain.

Clarehaven Stables
Clarehaven Stables is a Thoroughbred horse racing stable built next to the Bury Road in the horse racing town of Newmarket, Suffolk. It was built early in the 20th century and was bought by the businessman and philanthropist Sir David Robinson in the 1960s, after which it became the base for his successful racing operation. It is now a base to racehorse trainer John Gosden, who has trained Breeders' Cup Classic winner Raven's Pass and St. Leger Stakes winner Lucarno there, among many others.

R Cotton's Ground is a cricket ground in Newmarket, Cambridgeshire. The first recorded match on the ground was in 1864, when a combined Cambridge and Yorkshire team played a combined Kent and Nottinghamshire team in the grounds only first-class match. The first Minor Counties Championship match held on the ground was in 1908, when Cambridgeshire played Suffolk.
