Loughborough University
Loughborough University is a public research university located in the market town of Loughborough, Leicestershire, in the East Midlands of England. In March 2013, the university announced it had acquired the former broadcast centre at the Queen Elizabeth II Olympic park which it plans to open as a second campus in 2015. It is among the country's leading universities – consistently ranked among the top 20 in the UK – and is a member of the 1994 Group.
Hathern railway station
Hathern Railway Station was a station serving the village of Hathern in Leicestershire, England. It was built by the Midland Railway on the line originally opened in 1839 by the Midland Counties Railway. This line is now part of the Midland Main Line between Loughborough and Long Eaton Built in 1868, it actually lay a mile and a half from the village, nearer to Sutton Bonington in the neighbouring county of Nottinghamshire and closed in 1960.
College Ground, Loughborough
The College Ground was a cricket stadium, based in the town of Loughborough, Leicestershire. It has, in the past, been used by Leicestershire as an outground and has held 2 first class games in total. The first game took place in 1928 against Derbyshire and the last was a year later against Glamorgan. The site of the ground is now occupied by Loughborough University Students' Union.
Loughborough Canal Festival
The Loughborough Canal and Boat Festival is an annual event that is held in Loughborough, England. The festival was started as part of a campaign by the Loughborough Echo in 1997 to draw attention to redevelopment plans which would have involved the infilling of part of the Canal System. The plans by Charnwood Borough Council were subsequently abandoned. The festival has been held every year since except for 2001 due to foot and mouth.
Thorpe Acre
Thorpe Acre used to be a hamlet between Loughborough and Shepshed in Leicestershire. Until the mid-twentieth century, Thorpe Acre comprised about twenty houses or cottages, several of which survive and there is a nineteenth century church and an old hostelry, The Plough Inn. Following the Second World War, Loughborough needed more housing and part of Thorpe Acre was developed, largely for employees of Brush Engineering Works, during the 1950s.
St. Anne's Church, Sutton Bonington
St. Anne's Church is a parish church in the Church of England in Sutton Bonington, Nottinghamshire. The church is a 12th century Grade II* Listed building. It is located off the Main Street, at the top end of St Anne's Lane, and near to the Midland Main Line which was constructed past the village in 1840. Sutton Bonington's village hall & library is situated on the lane opposite.
St. James, Normanton
The Church of St. James is a church in Normanton, Nottinghamshire. The church is a 12th century Grade I Listed building (built between 1141 and 1147). It is located on the Main Street on the southeast end of the village, and is situated right by the east bank of the River Soar (which is the county boundary with Leicestershire). The current priest in charge is Rev. Dr. John Davey, who is also the priest in charge of the neighbouring parish of Sutton Bonington. There are regular services held.
Dishley Grange
Dishley Grange is a house in Dishley, Leicestershire, just north of Loughborough on the A6 road. Dishley Grange was the home of the famous agriculturalist Robert Bakewell (1725–1795). However, the present building was rebuilt in 1845 and was grade II listed in 1984.
