Northampton Balloon Festival
The Northampton Balloon Festival is an annual hot air balloon festival held in the English town of Northampton. The original festival was held in The Racecourse and managed by the Borough Council, and took place over a Friday, Saturday and Sunday in mid-August. The main features of the festival were the twice-daily hot air balloon lifts and a balloon glow, but other attractions included trade stalls, live music and arena entertainment.
Billing Aquadrome
Billing Aquadrome is a leisure park in Great Billing, in the eastern district of Northampton, England. Facilities within the 235-acre (1 km²) park, which is based around various mature gravel pits, include a caravan site, marina and funfair. It is also home to a variety of shows throughout the year, which are often car or motorsport related, such as the world's largest annual Land Rover show and the American Car Show. It also hosts the Northampton Balloon Festival.
Sywell Country Park
Sywell Country Park exists on the site of a former drinking water reservoir near the village of Sywell in East Northamptonshire, England. The reservoir was built at the turn of the 20th century to supply water to the Higham Ferrers and Rushden areas. It operated between 1906 and 1979 and is now a country park run by Northamptonshire County Council. It has an area of 280,000 square metres. The land for the reservoir was purchased from the Stockdale family estate at adjoining Mears Ashby.
All Saints' Church, Earls Barton
After the Danish raids on England, Medehampstede Abbey, a few miles away from Earls Barton, Northamptonshire, was rebuilt in about AD 970 to become Peterborough. It is generally accepted that All Saints' Church, Earls Barton was built around this period at the end of the tenth century. Even though only the tower survives from the original church at Earls Barton, this is one of the best examples of later Anglo-Saxon architecture.
Billing railway station
Billing railway station is a former railway station in Northamptonshire on the former Northampton and Peterborough Railway which connected Peterborough and Northampton. In 1846 the line, along with the London and Birmingham, became part of the London and North Western Railway. At grouping in 1923 it became part of the London Midland and Scottish Railway.
Lings Wood Nature Reserve
Lings wood is a local nature reserve in the eastern district of Northampton town. It is over 22 hectares and contains 2 small ponds. Alongside the wildlife trust park are the neighbouring housing estates: Blackthorn, Goldings, The Glades, and Lings.
Billing Hall
Billing Hall was a manor house in Billing, Northamptonshire, England. Records of the manor, the predecessor to Great Billing Hall, date back to the 12th century. It was originally owned by the Barry family and Baron Dundalk built it in 1629. It became the county seat of the Earls of Thomond, descendants of Brian Boru, King of Ireland in 1002. With the arrival of the Elwes family in 1779 the history of Great Billing became inextricably linked to them.
