Ainsty
The Ainsty or the Ainsty of York was a historic district of Yorkshire, England adjacent to the City of York. Originally a wapentake or subdivision of the West Riding of Yorkshire it later had a unique status as a rural area controlled by the corporation of the city.
Bishopthorpe Rural District
Bishopthorpe was a rural district in the West Riding of Yorkshire from 1894 to 1937. It was formed under the Local Government Act 1894 from that part of the York Rural Sanitary District which was in the West Riding. It included the parishes of Acaster Malbis, Askham Richard, Bishopthorpe, Copmanthorpe, Dringhouses Without and Middlethorpe Without. It was abolished in 1937 by a County Review Order.
Copmanthorpe train accident
The Copmanthorpe train accident occurred on 25 September 2006, at Moor Lane, Copmanthorpe, North Yorkshire, England, on the East Coast Main Line, south of York. A 55-year-old man died when 221 136, Yuri Gagarin, a Class 221 Virgin Super Voyager, on the 14:25 Virgin CrossCountry service from Plymouth to Edinburgh Waverley, hit his car at 21:01. The train derailed but remained upright and came to a stop further down the line. There were no other injuries.
Askham Bryan College
Askham Bryan College is a specialist landbased college based in Askham Bryan, York, England. It also has centres in Thirsk, Bedale, Harrogate, Guisborough, Bradford, Wakefield Scarborough and Penrith. It was built in 1936, but not opened until after World War II as the Yorkshire Agricultural Institute.
