Sevenoaks is a local government district covering the western most part of Kent in England. Its council is based in the town of Sevenoaks. It was formed on 1 April 1974, under the Local Government Act 1972, by a merger of the Sevenoaks Urban District, Sevenoaks Rural District and part of Dartford Rural District. To the North West the district borders with two Greater London Boroughs in Swanley, as well as Surrey to the West near Westerham and East Sussex to the South near Edenbridge.

Sevenoaks School is an English coeducational independent school located in the town of Sevenoaks, Kent. It is the third oldest non-denominational school in the United Kingdom, dating back to 1432, behind Winchester (1382) and Oswestry (1407). Penshurst Airfield

Penshurst Airfield was an airfield in operation between 1916–36 and 1940–46. Initially a military airfield, after the First World War it was used as an alternate destination to Croydon Airport, with some civil flying taking place. The airfield closed following the crash of a Flying Flea at an air display in 1936, and was converted to a polo ground. It re-opened during the Second World War as an Emergency Landing Ground, RAF Penshurst.

The October 1926 Air Union Blériot 155 crash happened on 2 October 1926 at Leigh, Kent when Blériot 155 F-AICQ caught fire in mid-air and crashed while the pilot attempted to make an emergency landing at Penshurst Airfield. Both members of crew and all five passengers were killed. This was the first in-flight fire occurring on an airliner.

The 1927 KLM Fokker F. VIII crash happened on 22 August 1927 when Fokker F. VIII H-NADU of KLM crashed at Underriver, Kent, following structural failure of the tailfin or rudder. The aircraft was operating an international scheduled flight from Croydon, Surrey, to Waalhaven Airport, Rotterdam, The Netherlands. One of the two crew was killed and eight people were injured.
