Kingsferry Bridge

The Kingsferry Bridge is a combined road and railway vertical-lift bridge connecting the Isle of Sheppey to Kent in the South East England. It was designed by Mott, Hay and Anderson, and built by John Howard, with Dorman Long and Sir William Arrol. It comprises a reinforced concrete and structural steel deck, supported from portal-shaped reinforced concrete towers. The first bridge on the site had been a railway bascule bridge built in 1860 as part of the London, Chatham and Dover Railway.

Sheppey Crossing

The Sheppey Crossing is a four-lane road bridge which crosses The Swale at a height of 35m (115 ft), linking the Isle of Sheppey with mainland Kent. It was opened on July 3, 2006 by Minister for Transport, Stephen Ladyman and provides an alternative to the old Kingsferry Bridge for road users.

Funton

Funton is a location in Kent, United Kingdom. It is a creek situated on the edge of the North Kent Marshes on the right bank of the River Medway about halfway between the towns Chatham and Sheerness. There is evidence of Celtic/Romano-British salt extraction here deduced from the excavated remains of an evaporating vessel. Brick making continues here using the local Brickearth clay. A small brick works produces the classic, yellow London stock bricks for which this area is well known.
