Pirton, Hertfordshire
Pirton is a small village and civil parish three miles north-west of Hitchin in Hertfordshire, England. The church, rebuilt in 1877, but with the remains of its 12th-century tower, is built within the bailey of a former castle. Pirton Grange, which was remodelled in the 18th century, is in the north of the parish, and is a particularly interesting, moated Elizabethan house with a timber framed gatehouse. Hammonds Farm and Rectory Farm, with its tithe barn, are also Elizabethan.
Holwell, Hertfordshire
Holwell is a small village and a civil parish two miles north of Hitchin in Hertfordshire, England, near the Bedfordshire border. The church is unusual and, although largely rebuilt, retains some Perpendicular features and an interesting brass to Richard Wodehouse. The school, almshouses, and rectory are all in a similar Tudor style erected in the 1830s, but are no longer in use and have been converted into housing.
Blueharts Hockey Club
Blueharts Hockey Club is a hockey club based in Hitchin, Hertfordshire. They were founded in 1946 and train at Hitchin Boys' School. The clubhouse is located in Lucas Lane which is also the home of Hitchin Cricket Club and Hitchin Lacrosse Club. The hockey club hold an annual fireworks display on 5 November. This is the town's premier fireworks event. The term can also be used a "I am a Bluehart" meaning I am a member and in many cases were a past member.
Offley
Offley is a civil parish in the English county of Hertfordshire, between Hitchin and Luton. The main village is Great Offley, and the parish also contains the nearby hamlets of Little Offley and The Flints. In the south-west of the parish, near Luton, there are the hamlets of Cockernhoe, Mangrove Green and Tea Green, and also the Putteridge Bury estate; these have LU2 postcodes and 01582 telephone numbers.
Henlow Camp railway station
Henlow Camp was a railway station on the Bedford to Hitchin Line which served the village of Henlow in Bedfordshire, England. Opened in 1857, it gave more than a century of service before closing in 1962.
Hitchin Town Cricket Club Ground
Hitchin Town Cricket Club Ground is a cricket ground in Hitchin, Hertfordshire. The first recorded match on the ground was in 1877, when Hertfordshire played Essex. Hertfordshire played their first Minor Counties Championship match on the ground in 1908 against Cambridgeshire. Hertfordshire used the ground until 1914, and following a 37 year break from the ground, it returned in 1951.
Henlow Stadium
Henlow Stadium is a greyhound track located at Stondon, in the English county of Bedfordshire, slightly to the north of Hitchin. The stadium has a restaurant, a number of bars and a bistro. Racing takes place every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night.
