Royal Observatory, Greenwich

The Royal Observatory, Greenwich (formerly the Royal Greenwich Observatory or RGO), in London played a major role in the history of astronomy and navigation, and is best known as the location of the prime meridian. It is situated on a hill in Greenwich Park, overlooking the River Thames. The observatory was commissioned in 1675 by King Charles II, with the foundation stone being laid on 10 August.

Cutty Sark

Greenwich foot tunnel

The Greenwich foot tunnel is a pedestrian tunnel crossing beneath the River Thames in East London, linking Greenwich in the south with the Isle of Dogs to the north. The tunnel is currently open while refurbishment works continue on the entrance shafts and domes. The works were due to be complete by June 2011, but are not yet complete as of December 2012.

Queen's House

The Queen's House, Greenwich, is a former royal residence built between 1616–1619 in Greenwich, then a few miles downriver from London, and now a district of the city. Prime meridian (Greenwich)

The prime meridian, based at the Royal Observatory, Greenwich, was established by Sir George Airy in 1851. By 1884, over two-thirds of all ships and tonnage used it as the reference meridian on their maps. In October of that year, at the behest of U.S. President Chester A. Ranger's House

Fan Museum

The Fan Museum was the first museum dedicated to the fan. It is located in the Greenwich World Heritage Site in South East London, England. The Museum, which opened in 1991, is accommodated in two grade II* listed houses built in 1721. An orangery decorated with murals has been added to the building. There is also a Japanese-style garden with a fan-shaped parterre, a pond, and a stream. The Fan Museum owns over 4,000 fans, fan leaves and related ephemera.

North Greenwich railway station

North Greenwich was a railway station in Millwall, east London. It was located on the north side of the River Thames near Island Gardens, and is not to be confused with the modern-day North Greenwich tube station, which is located on the south side of the river, a mile downstream on the Greenwich Peninsula, near the Millennium Dome. It was the terminus of the Millwall Extension Railway (MER) branch of the London and Blackwall Railway; Millwall Docks was the next station along.

Royal School of Naval Architecture

Greenwich Park railway station

Greenwich Park railway station (Greenwich until 1900) was a railway station in Greenwich, London opened in 1888 by the London, Chatham and Dover Railway. It was intended to rival the South Eastern Railway's Greenwich railway station which had opened over 50 years earlier. It served as the terminus for the Greenwich Park branch, which ran from Nunhead to Greenwich Park. It took its name from the nearby Greenwich Park, home of the Royal Observatory.

Blackheath Hill railway station

Blackheath Hill railway station was a railway station in south-east London on the border of Greenwich and Lewisham. It was opened in 1871 by the London, Chatham and Dover Railway on its Greenwich Park branch. It served as the end of the line until the stretch to Greenwich Park was opened in 1888. It closed in 1917 along with the rest of the line, owing to poor use.

Poplar Blackwall and District Rowing Club is an amateur rowing club, on the River Thames in England. It is situated on the northern bank of the Thames opposite Greenwich on the Isle of Dogs. Poplar Blackwall and District Rowing Club was founded in 1854 and is one of the oldest rowing clubs in Great Britain.
