Royal Observatory, Greenwich
The Royal Observatory, Greenwich (formerly the Royal Greenwich Observatory or RGO), in London played a major role in the history of astronomy and navigation, and is best known as the location of the prime meridian. It is situated on a hill in Greenwich Park, overlooking the River Thames. The observatory was commissioned in 1675 by King Charles II, with the foundation stone being laid on 10 August.
Cutty Sark
The Cutty Sark is a British clipper ship. Built on the Clyde in 1869 for the Jock Willis shipping line, she was one of the last tea clippers to be built and one of the fastest, coming at the end of a long period of design development which halted as sailing ships gave way to steam propulsion.
Greenwich foot tunnel
The Greenwich foot tunnel is a pedestrian tunnel crossing beneath the River Thames in East London, linking Greenwich in the south with the Isle of Dogs to the north. The tunnel is currently open while refurbishment works continue on the entrance shafts and domes. The works were due to be complete by June 2011, but are not yet complete as of December 2012.
St Alfege Church, Greenwich
St Alfege Church is a Church of England place of worship in the town centre of Greenwich in the eponymous London Borough. Of medieval origin, the church was rebuilt in 1712-14 to the designs of Nicholas Hawksmoor
Queen's House
The Queen's House, Greenwich, is a former royal residence built between 1616–1619 in Greenwich, then a few miles downriver from London, and now a district of the city. Its architect was Inigo Jones, for whom it was a crucial early commission, for Anne of Denmark, the queen of King James I of England. It was altered and completed by Jones, in a second campaign about 1635 for Henrietta Maria, queen of King Charles I.
Palace of Placentia
The Palace of Placentia was an English Royal Palace built by Humphrey, Duke of Gloucester in 1447, in Greenwich, on the banks of the River Thames, downstream from London. The Palace was demolished in the seventeenth century and replaced with the Greenwich Hospital in the late seventeenth century.
River Ravensbourne
The River Ravensbourne is a tributary of the River Thames in South London, England. It flows into the River Thames on the Tideway at Deptford, where its tidal reach is known as Deptford Creek.
Prime meridian (Greenwich)
The prime meridian, based at the Royal Observatory, Greenwich, was established by Sir George Airy in 1851. By 1884, over two-thirds of all ships and tonnage used it as the reference meridian on their maps. In October of that year, at the behest of U.S. President Chester A. Arthur, 41 delegates from 25 nations met in Washington, D.C. , USA, for the International Meridian Conference.
Greenwich Pier
Greenwich Pier is a pier on the River Thames in the London borough of Greenwich, UK. It is operated by London River Services and called at by various river cruise operators, mostly operating public cruise services to and from Central London. It is currently undergoing major refurbishment and a temporary dock is in place.
Ranger's House
Ranger's House is a medium-sized red brick Georgian mansion in the Palladian style, adjacent to Greenwich Park in the south east of London. It is situated in Blackheath and backs directly onto Greenwich Park. Presently there is a rose garden behind it. Since 2002 it has housed the Wernher Collection of art.
Fan Museum
The Fan Museum was the first museum dedicated to the fan. It is located in the Greenwich World Heritage Site in South East London, England. The Museum, which opened in 1991, is accommodated in two grade II* listed houses built in 1721. An orangery decorated with murals has been added to the building. There is also a Japanese-style garden with a fan-shaped parterre, a pond, and a stream. The Fan Museum owns over 4,000 fans, fan leaves and related ephemera.
Island Gardens
Island Gardens is a public park located at the southern end of the Isle of Dogs—hence the name 'Island'—in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets on the north bank of the River Thames. The park was formally opened on 3 August 1895 by prominent local politician Will Crooks—one of many local improvements he instigated.

The Greenwich Maritime Institute (GMI) is a part of the University of Greenwich. Established in 1998, it provides a specialist postgraduate and research institute within the large multi-faculty University of Greenwich.
Seamen's Hospital Society
The Seamen's Hospital Society is a UK charity established in 1821 with the purpose of helping people currently or previously employed in the Merchant Navy or fishing fleets, and their dependants. The Dreadnought Seamen's Hospital continues to the present day under the NHS as the 'Dreadnought Unit' at St Thomas's Hospital and the dedicated Hospital for Tropical Diseases, part of the University College Hospitals London NHS Trust.
North Greenwich railway station
North Greenwich was a railway station in Millwall, east London. It was located on the north side of the River Thames near Island Gardens, and is not to be confused with the modern-day North Greenwich tube station, which is located on the south side of the river, a mile downstream on the Greenwich Peninsula, near the Millennium Dome. It was the terminus of the Millwall Extension Railway (MER) branch of the London and Blackwall Railway; Millwall Docks was the next station along.
A206 road
The A206 road links Greenwich with Greenhithe following the line of the River Thames. Today it is approximately 15 miles (24 km) in length, although the final section is a relatively new road. Its primary purpose is to link into the London Orbital motorway at the Dartford Crossing and is heavily used by lorries.

Old Royal Naval College
The Old Royal Naval College is the architectural centrepiece of Maritime Greenwich, a World Heritage Site in Greenwich, London, described by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation as being of “outstanding universal value” and reckoned to be the “finest and most dramatically sited architectural and landscape ensemble in the British Isles”.
Royal School of Naval Architecture
The first School of Naval Architecture opened in 1811 in Portsmouth and closed in 1832. The Royal School of Naval Architecture or Royal School of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering was an institution founded in South Kensington in 1864 to train naval architects. It was founded by Joseph Woolley, who had been Principal of the short-lived School of Mathematics and Naval Construction in Portsmouth (1848–1853).
Greenwich Park railway station
Greenwich Park railway station (Greenwich until 1900) was a railway station in Greenwich, London opened in 1888 by the London, Chatham and Dover Railway. It was intended to rival the South Eastern Railway's Greenwich railway station which had opened over 50 years earlier. It served as the terminus for the Greenwich Park branch, which ran from Nunhead to Greenwich Park. It took its name from the nearby Greenwich Park, home of the Royal Observatory.
Blackheath Hill railway station
Blackheath Hill railway station was a railway station in south-east London on the border of Greenwich and Lewisham. It was opened in 1871 by the London, Chatham and Dover Railway on its Greenwich Park branch. It served as the end of the line until the stretch to Greenwich Park was opened in 1888. It closed in 1917 along with the rest of the line, owing to poor use.
Poplar Blackwall and District Rowing Club
Poplar Blackwall and District Rowing Club is an amateur rowing club, on the River Thames in England. It is situated on the northern bank of the Thames opposite Greenwich on the Isle of Dogs. Poplar Blackwall and District Rowing Club was founded in 1854 and is one of the oldest rowing clubs in Great Britain. It was established by a group of young lightermen as "The Blackwall Rowing and Athletic Club". Boats were carried to the river from a local pub.
Jack Cade's Cavern
Jack Cade's Cavern is a cavern, extending several hundred feet underground, in Blackheath, south-east London, England. It is located northwest of the Heath and southwest of Greenwich Park, beneath a spot called "The Point". It was re-discovered in about the year 1780. They are also referred to as the Blackheath Caverns. The entrance was at the end of a row of small cottages called "Cavern Cottages" at the rear of Trinity Church on Blackheath Hill,.
Greenwich Castle
Greenwich Castle was a castle used during the reign of Henry VIII, located in Greenwich Park, in Greenwich, England. The Royal Observatory, Greenwich now stands on the land. Greenwich Castle was apparently a favourite place for Henry VIII to house his mistresses, as it was within easy travelling distance of Greenwich Palace.
