Wendron
Wendron is a village and civil parish in Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. It is three miles (5 kilometres) north of Helston. The Revd G. H. Doble served for almost twenty years as the Vicar of Wendron (1925–1945). Langdon (1896) recorded the existence of eight stone crosses in the parish, including two at Merther Uny. The church contains the brass of Warin Penhalluryk, rector of St Just, vicar of Wendron and Stithians, d. 1535.
Kerrier Hundred
The hundred of Kerrier was the name of one of ten ancient administrative shires of Cornwall, in the United Kingdom. Kerrier (sometimes Kirrier) is thought by Charles Thomas to be derived from an obsolete name (ker hyr = long fort) of Castle Pencaire on Tregonning Hill, Breage. It is likely that an even earlier name for the district was Predannack which has been displaced by the Lizard Peninsula as a geographical name.
Helston railway station
Helston railway station was the terminus of the Helston Railway in Cornwall, in England. It was later operated by the Great Western Railway but has since been closed. It secured its place in history when it became the first place in the country with a railway-operated bus service. These GWR road motor services met trains at the station and carried passengers on towards The Lizard.
Coverack Bridges
Coverack Bridges is a hamlet in south-west Cornwall, United Kingdom. It is situated in the valley of the River Cobber just under one mile north of Helston. The area is mainly farming now but has a long history of well over 200 years of granite quarry. The local quarry is still in business and is located just below the golf course along the banks of the Cobber river.
Helston Folk Museum
Helston Museum is a folk museum situated in the former market town of Helston, Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. The museum was founded in 1949. The building was originally designed as the town's Market House in 1837 as two separate buildings—one for Butter and Eggs, the other the Meat Market—and the museum was sited in the Butter Market. The Museum expanded into the Meat Market in the early 1980s, then into the adjoining Drill Hall in 1999.
Poldark Mine
Poldark Mine was a tin mine in Cornwall worked sometime between 1720 and 1780. The mine was originally called Wheal Roots and little is known of its early workings. In 1856 it became part of the Wendron Consols Mine and is shown on the surface plan of that mine as 'old men's workings' meaning that it was at that date considered a very old mine. The origins of the mine were researched by the late authority on Cornish mining history, Dr. A. K. Hamilton Jenkin.
