Latakia

Latakia, or Latakiyah (and often locally transliterated as Lattakia), is the principal port city of Syria, as well as the capital of the Latakia Governorate. In addition to serving as a port, the city is a manufacturing center for surrounding agricultural towns and villages. According to the 2004 official census, the population of the city is 383,786.

Battle of Latakia

The Battle of Latakia was a small but revolutionary naval battle of the Yom Kippur War, fought on 7 October 1973, between Israel and Syria. It was the first naval battle in history to see combat between surface-to-surface missile-equipped missile boats and the use of electronic deception. At the outset of hostilities, the Israeli Navy set out to destroy the naval capabilities of the Syrians, who were equipped with Soviet Komar and Osa class missile boats.

Al-Assad Stadium (also known as Al-Basil Stadium) is a multi-purpose stadium in Latakia, Syria. It is currently used mostly for football matches. The stadium has a capacity of 25,000 spectators. Latakia District

The Latakia camp is an "unofficial" Palestinian refugee camp located within the municipal boundaries of Latakia on the Mediterranean coast. Established in 1955-1956 on an area of 220,000 square meters, most of the refugees originate from the city of Jaffa and villages in northern Palestine. As of June 2002, the number of registered refugees living in Latakia camp is 6,354. Fishing provides a small income for many refugees.

Latakia Sports City

Latakia Sports City, known also as Al-Assad Sports City, is a sports complex in Latakia, Syria. It was completed in 1987 to host the 1987 Mediterranean Games.
