Aleppo
Aleppo, located in northwestern Syria 310 kilometres (193 miles) from Damascus, is the largest city in Syria and serves as the capital of Aleppo Governorate, the most populous Syrian governorate. With an official population of 2,132,100 (2004 census), it is also one of the largest cities in the Levant. For centuries, Aleppo was Greater Syria's largest city and the Ottoman Empire's third, after İstanbul and Cairo.
1138 Aleppo earthquake
The 1138 Aleppo earthquake was among the deadliest earthquakes in history. Its name was taken from the city of Aleppo, in northern Syria, where the most casualties were sustained. The quake occurred on 11 October 1138 and was preceded by a smaller quake on the 10th. It is frequently listed as the third deadliest earthquake in history, following on from the Shensi and Tangshan earthquakes in China.
Armenian Evangelical Martyrs' Church
The Armenian Evangelical Martyrs' Church (Nahadagatz) is located in Soulemaniye quarter, Aleppo, Syria. The origin of the church goes back to 1865, Aintab, Turkey, where the first Armenian Evangelical - Kayajik church with the full content of its members was split into two groups and one group moved into Hayik quarter of the city and established a second church there. The first pastor of the church was Rev. Kara Krikor Haroutyounian, who has served the church until his death in 1907. Rev.

The centre of the district is the city of Aleppo. Until December 2008, the sub-district of Atāreb was part of the Mount Simeon district before being incorporated into a district.
Battle of Aleppo (2012–13)
The Battle of Aleppo is an ongoing military confrontation in Aleppo, Syria between the Free Syrian Army and its allies and the Syrian military. The battle began on 19 July 2012 as a part of the Syrian civil war. Clashes escalated in late July as the Syrian Army and opposition fighters fought in the city, which is the largest in Syria and holds great strategic and economic importance. The scale and importance of the combat has led to combatants calling it "the mother of all battles".
