Schiffenensee is an artificial lake formed by a barrage of the Saane/Sarine river in the canton of Fribourg, Switzerland. The barrages at Schiffenen were completed in 1963.
Lac de Pérolles
Lac de Pérolles, a lake formed by Maigrauge Dam, is a reservoir on the Saane/Sarine river at Fribourg, in western Switzerland. Its surface area is 0.35 square kilometres . The dam was built in 1872, and its height was increased by 2.5 metres in 1910. The watershed (or catchment) is 1,250 square kilometres . The Maigrauge Dam has a gated spillway.
Fribourg Cathedral
The Cathedral of St. Nicolas in Fribourg, built in the Gothic style, dominates the center of the medieval town of Fribourg. It is built on a rocky outcrop 50 metres above the river Sarine (Saane). The main body of the church was started in 1283 and completed by 1430. The tower was completed in 1490. It is 76 metres tall and houses 11 bells. It also features a rose window above the main portal with stained glass by Harrison Weltlich (1988).
Barberêche Castle
Barberêche Castle is a castle in Barberêche in the Canton of Fribourg in Switzerland. It is a Swiss Heritage Site of National Significance. It is located on the edge of the nearby plateau, right above the Schiffenensee. It was built between 1522 and 1528, likely on the site of an earlier fortification, under Petermann de Praroman's direction in the late Gothic style.
Grand-Vivy Castle
Grand-Vivy Castle is a castle in Barberêche in the Canton of Fribourg in Switzerland. It is a Swiss Heritage Site of National Significance. The furthest to the north-east, of Barberêche's three castles, Grand-Vivy Castle is located on a narrow outcrop between the Schiffenensee and a small side stream. This was also the site of a mediaeval castle, but this was replaced by today's late-Gothic structure with its semicircular stairway tower, and other tower construction.
Petit-Vivy Castle
Barberêche Castle is a castle in Barberêche in the Canton of Fribourg in Switzerland. It is a Swiss Heritage Site of National Significance. It is located near the dike surrounding the Schiffenensee and northeast of Barberêche. It is among the oldest preserved castles in the region. The still-preserved, mighty, four-sided keep was built in the second half of the 13th century, and has 3.5 m thick walls. Around the keep are the remains of former surrounding walls, arranged in triangular form.
