University of Basel
The University of Basel is located in Basel, Switzerland, and is considered to be one of leading universities in the country. In 2011, QS World University Rankings ranked the university 151st overall in the world, while a year before it was ranked 96–98th worldwide according to the Russian based Global University Ranking.
Basler Messeturm
The Basler Messeturm (Basel Trade Fair Tower), located in Basel at {{#invoke:Coordinates|coord}}{{#coordinates:47|33|52.16|N|7|36|7.99|E|type:landmark_region:CH-BS |primary |name= }}, was the Switzerland's tallest building until 2010, when a higher skyscraper was built in Zürich. It has 32 floors and is 105 m (344 ft) tall. It was completed in 2003. A bar called "Bar Rouge" ("red bar") can be found on the top floor, providing excellent views of the city.
Walls of Basel
The Basel City Walls are a former complex of walls in the central part of the Swiss city of Basel. The first city wall was completed around 1080 under bishop Burkhard von Fenis. A newer wall was constructed around 1230, which is known as the Inner Wall. In 1362 the construction of a larger wall complex began due to the city's expansion; it was completed in 1398, and is known as the Outer Wall. In 1859 the city's executive decided to raze wall and gates to the ground.
Birsig
The Birsig is a rather small river in eastern France and northern Switzerland. Its source is in the village Biederthal, in the French Haut-Rhin department, near the Swiss border. The Birsig is about 21 kilometers long and its watershed area is about 82 square kilometers. It flows variably through Swiss and French territory and through the Birsig Valley. Afterwards it passes the city of Basel, where it enters the Rhine river (left bank).
Weil am Rhein
Weil am Rhein is a German town and commune which is a suburb of the city of Basel in Switzerland. It is on the east bank of the River Rhine, and close to the point at which the Swiss, French and German borders meet. It is the most southwesterly town in Germany.
Battle of Friedlingen
The Battle of Friedlingen was fought in 1702 between France and the Holy Roman Empire. The Imperial forces were led by Louis William, Margrave of Baden-Baden, while the French were led by Claude Louis Hector de Villars. The French were victorious.
Silo Tower Basel
The Silo Tower of Basel is located in the Swiss city of Basel, in the Rhine harbour of Kleinhueningen, near the Dreilaenderecks. The silo tower was built in 1923 by a Swiss shipping company. Its viewing platform stands at a height of 52 metres (about 160 feet), which offers a view of the Rhine, the Rhine harbour, the city of Basel, and the Sundgauer hill country. In the distance, one may appreciate details in Germany and France.

Rhine Gate
The Rhine Gate is a former city gate in the ancient city walls of Basel, Switzerland. It had been pulled down in 1839, about twenty years before three other gateways and the city walls were pulled down. The position of the Rhine Gate was at the Rhine bridge on the western river bord.
Thomas Tower
The Thomas Tower is a former watchtower in the ancient city walls of Basel, Switzerland, just across the Gate of Saint John. It is named after Thomas Becket, Archbishop of Canterbury.
Wiese
The Wiese is a river in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, and Basel-City, Switzerland, a right tributary of the Rhine. It rises in the Black Forest, on the Feldberg. The Wiese flows through Todtnau, Schönau im Schwarzwald, Schopfheim and Lörrach. After crossing the border with Switzerland, the Wiese flows through the quarters of Basel on the right side of the Rhine, and joins the Rhine opposite the French town Saint-Louis. Its length is 55 km.
Basel Badischer Bahnhof
Basel Badischer Bahnhof is a railway station situated in the Swiss city of Basel. The station is situated on Swiss soil, but the station is operated by the German railway company Deutsche Bahn. A custom border is situated in the passenger tunnel between the tracks and the station hall. It is the only railway station that is operated as part of the German national rail network yet not located within Germany's state boundaries, and it is listed as a Swiss heritage site of national significance.
Pharmazie-Historisches Museum der Universität Basel
The Pharmazie-Historisches Museum (Museum of Pharmacy) in Basel, Switzerland, is dedicated to pharmaceutical history and houses one of the world’s largest collections on the subject. It features ceramic pharmaceutical vessels, complete pharmacy interiors, an alchemistic laboratory, mortars, first-aid kits, books, medications from bygone eras and everything related to the historic manufacture of pharmaceuticals. The museum is a heritage site of national significance.

The BIRS Index is a share index of the 12 largest companies listed on the Banja Luka Stock Exchange, established on 1 May 2004. BIRS stands for Berzanski indeks Republike Srpske, which is Serbian for The Stock Exchange Index of Republika Srpska, an entity in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The constituents of the index are determined semi-annually, on 15 May and 15 November. Component companies must meet a number of requirements set out by the BLSE.
Museums in Basel
The Basel museums encompass a series of museums in the city of Basel, Switzerland, and the neighboring region. They represent a broad spectrum of collections with a marked concentration in the fine arts and house numerous holdings of international significance. With at least three dozen institutions, not including the local history collections in the surrounding communities, the region offers an extraordinarily high density of museums compared to other metropolitan areas of similar size.
Basel University Library
The University Library of Basle is one of the biggest libraries in Switzerland. It is located at the University of Basel, at 18 – 20 Schönbeinstrasse. It is also Kantonsbibliothek of Basel-City. Local name of the library: Universitätsbibliothek. It contains more than 3 000 000 documents (1750 mediaeval manuscripts). Its collection includes numerous incunabula and manuscripts dating from the time of the Council of Basel (1431–87).
Schule für Gestaltung Basel
Switzerland's Schule für Gestaltung Basel (Basel School of Design) at the Allgemeine Gewerbeschule and its students have influenced the international graphic design community since it opened in 1968. Its tradition was shaped by influential personalities such as Armin Hofmann, Emil Ruder, Kurt Hauert, and Wolfgang Weingart. The name of the school represents an educational approach which perpetuates their ideas: to lay a strong and broad foundation for the major design disciplines.
Skulpturhalle Basel
The Skulpturhalle Basel is a museum in Basel, Switzerland, featuring cast replicas of antique sculpture. With around 2,000 casts it is the largest collection of its kind in the country, having tripled in size between 1985 and 2010. Since 1961 the collection has been managed by the Antikenmuseum Basel. The collection was started in 1830. From 1849 it was located in the newly opened Museum an der Augustinergasse (now the location of the Natural History Museum and the Museum of Cultures).

Three Countries Bridge
The Three Countries Bridge is an arch bridge which crosses the Rhine between the commune of Huningue and Weil am Rhein. It is the world's longest single-span bridge dedicated exclusively to carrying pedestrians and cyclists. Its overall length is 248 metres and its main span is 229.4 metres . Its name comes from the bridge's location between France, Germany and Switzerland (the latter being located approximately 200 metres away).
The Blue and The White House
The Blue and The White House (Blaues und Weisses Haus) are two town mansions in the city of Basel. The semi-detached baroque mansions on the Rheinsprung 16 and 18 in Basel, also known as “The Reichensteinerhof” and “The Wendelstörferhof”, were built by the architect Samuel Werenfels for the brothers Lukas and Jakob Sarasin between 1763 and 1775. “The White House” belonged to Lukas (1730 – 1802) and “The Blue House” to his younger brother Jakob (1742 – 1802).
SIS Swiss International School
The SIS Swiss International Schools are a group of 14 private day schools in Switzerland, Germany and Brazil offering continuous education from kindergarten through to college. As of 2013, 1,760 students are enrolled at SIS. SIS has been operating schools in Switzerland since 1999, in Germany since 2008, and in Brazil since 2011. It is a joint venture of Kalaidos Education Group (Switzerland) and Klett Group (Germany).
Basel Town Hall
The Basel Town Hall is a five hundred years old building dominating the Marktplatz in Basel. The Town Hall houses the meetings of the Cantonal Parliament as well as the Cantonal Government of the canton of Basel-Stadt. The Great Council Chamber at one time featured a series of frescoes painted in 1522 by Hans Holbein the Younger however these have mostly been lost. Fragments of the work as well as some of the initial drawings are kept in the Kunstmuseum.
