Koror is the state comprising the main commercial centre of the Republic of Palau. It consists of several islands, the most prominent being Koror Island (also Oreor Island). The state of Koror (population 14,000 as of 2004) contains about 70% of the population of the country. The nation's former capital and largest town, also called Koror, is located here.

Melekeok (town)

Melekeok is a town in the State of Melekeok. It is located on the east coast of Palau's largest island, Babeldaob. On October 2006, the settlement of Ngerulmud, located 2 km from the village of Melekeok, became the seat of Palau's government, replacing Koror as Palau's capital city. Ngardmau

Ngardmau is one of Palau's sixteen states and is located on the west side of Babeldaob between the states of Ngaraard and Ngeremlengui. Its total area is 20.5 square miles . According to the last census, 221 persons live in Ngardmau. Their 46 households are situated in three hamlets: Ngetbong, Ngerutoi and Urdmau. The hamlets have no visible boundaries, but form one settlement. The highest elevation on Palau is in Ngardmau; Mt. Ngerchelchuus, which is slightly over 700 feet tall.

Ngerekebesang Island

Ngerekebesang Island (Arakabesan) is an island in the state of Koror, Palau, where the office of the President of the Republic of Palau was located before the capital was moved to the state of Melekeok. It is composed of three towns: Ngerekebesang, Meyuns, and Echang, where most Southwest Islanders moved to after a storm struck the southwest islands. They were later resettled. Meyuns is host to the largest hospital in Palau, Belau National Hospital.
