Vardøya
Vardøya is an island in Vardø Municipality in Finnmark county, Norway. The 3.7-square-kilometre island is the location of the town of Vardø. The island sits about 1.5 kilometres east of the mainland Varanger Peninsula. The island is connected to the mainland by the Vardø Tunnel, the first subsea tunnel that was built in Norway. The tunnel is part of the European route E75 highway, which has its terminus at the town of Vardø.
Vardø Tunnel
The Vardø Tunnel is a subsea road tunnel in Vardø Municipality in Finnmark county, Norway. The 2,890-metre long two-lane tunnel under the Bussesundet strait and it connects the island of Vardøya to the village of Svartnes on the Varanger Peninsula on the mainland. The tunnel is part of the European Route E75 highway and it reaches a depth of 88 metres below sea level. The tunnel opened in 1982 and was the first subsea tunnel in Norway. King Olav V officially opened the tunnel on 16 August 1983.
Vardø Church
Vardø Church is a parish church in Vardø Municipality in Finnmark county, Norway. It is located in the town of Vardø. The church is part of the Vardø parish in the Varanger deanery in the Diocese of Nord-Hålogaland. The white, concrete church was built in 1958 in a modern style. It has a high roof with a steep pitch, with a tall triangular steeple. The church was designed by Eyvind Moestue. It was consecrated on 5 October 1958.
Vardø Chapel
Vardø Chapel or Steglnes Chapel (Norwegian: Vardø kapell / Steglnes kapell) is a chapel in Vardø Municipality in Finnmark county, Norway. It is located on the western part of the island of Vardøya in the town of Vardø, just south of the historic Vardøhus Fortress. The chapel is part of the Vardø parish in the Varanger deanery in the Diocese of Nord-Hålogaland. The small white chapel was built in 1908 at the site of the new parish cemetery.
