Te Whanganui-A-Hei (Cathedral Cove)
Te Whanganui-A-Hei (Cathedral Cove) Marine Reserve is a marine reserve on the Coromandel Peninsula in New Zealand. Cathedral Cove is named after the cave located there, linking Mare's Leg Cove to Cathedral Cove. Gemstone Bay and Stingray Bay are also located within the reserve. A walking track exists from the northern end of Hahei Beach, and it is also possible to walk from the local authority car park at the top of the headland between Hahei and Gemstone Bay.
Hahei
Hahei is a small settlement near Cathedral Cove on the eastern side of the Coromandel Peninsula in the Waikato Region of New Zealand. Hahei is located in Mercury Bay, between the settlements of Cooks Beach and Hot Water Beach. It is approximately 6 km south east of Whitianga and 6 km north of Hot Water Beach. The main town of Whitianga can be reached in one of two ways: either by a 40 minute drive or by a ferry ride some 15 minutes from Hahei by car.
Hot Water Beach
Hot Water Beach is a beach on the east coast of the Coromandel Peninsula, New Zealand, approximately 12 kilometres south east of Whitianga, and approximately 175 kilometres from Auckland by car. Its name comes from underground hot springs which filter up through the sand between the high and low water tidal reaches. The beach is a popular destination both for locals and tourists visiting New Zealand.
Mahurangi Island (Goat Island)
Mahurangi Island also known as Goat Island is located 1.1 kilometres to the north-east of Hahei on the Coromandel Peninsula in New Zealand's North Island. It is 6 hectares in size. Mahurangi Island forms one corner of the Te Whanganui-A-Hei (Cathedral Cove) Marine Reserve.
