The Grampians, New Zealand

The Grampians are a set of prominent hills forming the southeast backdrop of Nelson, reaching 390 metres high. Frequented by locals and tourists alike, they are covered in a myriad of tracks ranging from leisurely strolls to relatively taxing steep inclines. Entry points to this recreational area are from Van Diemen Street, Collingwood Street, and Broughham Street. A TV transmitter at the top is visible from most of Nelson.

Trafalgar Park, Nelson

Trafalgar Park is a large sports ground within the heart of the city of Nelson, in New Zealand's South Island. The stadium has a capacity of 18,000, following upgrades completed for the 2011 Rugby World Cup. It takes its name from the Battle of Trafalgar. It is one of the home grounds for Air New Zealand NPC rugby team the Tasman Makos. The other is Lansdowne Park, Blenheim. Trafalgar Park is also used by the Central Districts Cricket Association.

Cawthron Atkinson Observatory

Nelson Central School

Nelson Central School is a state primary contributing school located in the inner city of Nelson at the top of the South Island of New Zealand teaching children of both genders aged 5 to 11 years. At the end of 2006 the board of trustees consisted of five elected parent representatives, the Principal and the staff representative. Currently the chairman is Geoff Clark. Amber House

Amber House is one of the older two storey villas in New Zealand's third founded city of Nelson in the top of the South Island at 46 Weka Street. It is a traditional colonial-style construction using native Rimu and Matai with an external brick chimney that originally served four large fireplaces. The original, highly decorated, cast iron sewage vent pipes are still intact and visible on the exterior of the building.

Boulder Bank

The Boulder Bank is a very unusual naturally formed land form in Nelson, New Zealand. It is a 13 kilometre long stretch of rocky substrate which begins at the Mackay Bluff and ends at the Cut of the Nelson Harbour. Haulashore Island was once a part of the Boulder Bank, but after the Cut being made is an island, and no longer connected to the Boulder Bank. The Boulder Bank separates Tasman Bay and the Nelson Haven and is managed as a scenic reserve by the Department of Conservation.

Brook Waimarama Sanctuary

The Brook Waimarama Sanctuary is a 715 hectare mainland “ecological island” sanctuary located in Nelson, New Zealand. The Brook Waimarama Sanctuary Trust was established in 2004 with the intent of restoring the local populations of pre-European flora and fauna which have been ravaged by introduced mammalian predators. Invasion by introduced weeds also poses a threat. The sanctuary may also be used in the future as a site where endangered species from elsewhere in New Zealand may be protected.

Victory Square is a cricket ground in Nelson, Nelson Region, New Zealand. The first recorded cricket match held on the ground came in December 1862 when Nelson played Wellington. Nelson Haven is an extensive area of mudflats northeast of Nelson, New Zealand. It is separated from Tasman Bay by the Boulder Bank and over 8 km long and up to 2 km wide. The area is regularly completely drowned and exposed by tidal action and supports a large population of mud crabs.

Arrow Rock (also Fifeshire Rock) is a small island in Tasman Bay, off the coast of Nelson, New Zealand. There is a narrow channel between the rock and Haulashore Island. Situated within Nelson Harbour, Arrow Rock was site of the Fifeshire wreck in 1842, which gave the rock is secondary name. There are a number of Spotted Shags who live on the rock.
