Titirangi
Titirangi is a suburb in the Waitakere Ward of the city of Auckland in northern New Zealand. It is an affluent, residential suburb located 13 kilometres to the southwest of the Auckland city centre, at the southern end of the Waitakere Ranges. In Māori language "Titirangi" means "long streaks of cloud in the sky", but this is often given as "fringe of heaven". The population was 3,330 in the 2006 Census, an increase of 93 from 2001.
Laingholm
Laingholm is a small community situated in the Waitakere Ranges west of Auckland, in one of the fastest growing regions in New Zealand. It is part of Waitakere City, New Zealand's first "eco-city". The population was 2,490 in the 2006 Census, an increase of 33 from 2001. The name is derived from George and John Laing, who farmed the area starting in 1854, before it was subdivided. Celebrations were held in 2003 for the 150th anniversary of European settlement.
Waiatarua
Waiatarua is a small settlement near the top of the Waitakere Ranges, which border New Zealand's largest city, Auckland, close to the junction of Scenic Drive, West Coast Road and Piha Road to Piha and runs east until the junction of Scenic Drive and Mountain Road. Surrounded by native bush in the Centennial Memorial Park and the water catchment area, Waiatarua is over 300 metres above sea level.
Woodlands Park
Woodlands Park is a small, affluent and quiet suburb on the western outskirts of Auckland, New Zealand. Nestled in the Waitakere Ranges, Woodlands Park lies in a valley, bush clad hills separating it from Titirangi (to the north east), Parau and Huia (to the south east) and Laingholm (to the south). Most housing was built in the 1950s to 1970s, and lies within native bush.
Huia, New Zealand
Huia is a western suburb of Auckland, New Zealand. Huia was previously known as Te Huia as the area is thought to be named after a Māori chief, Te Huia, who stayed in the bay and was so taken by the area that he remained there. The English translation "The Huia" was used into the 1970s, however simply "Huia" has now become more commonplace. The majority of houses in Huia are located along Huia Road, which arcs around Huia Bay and heads west towards Little Huia.
Parau
Parau is an Auckland suburb. Parau is under the local governance of the Waitakere City Council. It is a coastal community close to Titirangi village Parau is made up of Huia Road, one other looping street called Rauhuia Crescent and two cul de sacs, Staley Road and Shirley Road. It also consists of a safe clean beach called Armour Bay where locals can partake in tennis, and swimming in the Manukau Harbour which laps the beach.
Lower Nihotupu Reservoir
The Lower Nihotupu Reservoir (or Lower Nihotupu Dam) is one of five reservoirs in the Waitakere Ranges that supply water to Auckland. Built between 1945 and 1948,. the reservoir covers an area of 52.9 hectares and has a capacity of 4.6 million cubic metres. The reservoir is managed by Water Care Services Limited, a council owned company.
