Calexico is a city in Imperial County, California. The population was 38,572 at the 2010 census, up from 27,109 at the 2000 census. The 1940 El Centro earthquake (or 1940 Imperial Valley earthquake) occurred at 21:35 Pacific Standard Time on May 18 in the Imperial Valley in southeastern Southern California near the international border of the United States and Mexico. 1979 Imperial Valley earthquake

The 1979 Imperial Valley earthquake occurred at 16:16 Pacific Standard Time on October 15 just south of the United States - Mexico border and impacted the Imperial Valley in southeastern Southern California and the Mexicali Valley in northern Baja California. With a relatively shallow hypocenter, it caused property damage estimated at $30 million, and badly affected the irrigation systems in the Imperial Valley, but was not responsible for any deaths.
