Mauritius
Mauritius Listen/məˈrɪʃəs/, officially the Republic of Mauritius is an island nation in the Indian Ocean about 2,000 kilometres off the south east coast of the African continent. The country includes the islands of Mauritius, Rodrigues, 560 kilometres east of the principal island, the islands of Agaléga and the Saint Brandon. Jummah Masjid (Mauritius)
The Jummah Masjid is a mosque in Port Louis, Mauritius dating from the 1850s, with substantial additions built through the 1890s. It is located on the Royal Road, and is described by the Ministry of Tourism's guide as one of the most beautiful religious building in the country. The Jummah Masjid is known to broadcast live the Jummah Prayers every Friday and taraweeh prayers during the month of Ramadan. Eid Prayers are also broadcast live.
John Kennedy College
John Kennedy College is a boys school in Beau-Bassin, Mauritius. It is one of the largest secondary schools in Mauritius. It was founded in 1963 and inaugurated by the then Governor General Sir John Shaw Rennie. It is the third star boy college in Mauritius. Students from this college are called "Kennedians". The school's uniform is a pair of blue jeans and a white shirt with an eagle printed on the back.
Pieter Both (mountain)
Pieter Both is the second highest mountain of Mauritius, at 820 metres tall. The mountain is shorter that Piton de la Petite Rivière Noire by eight meters. It is named after Pieter Both, the first Governor-General of the Dutch East Indies. It is located in the Moka Range. The notable feature of this mountain is the gigantic rock formation at the very top of it, which resembles a human head. To climb the mountain following the main ridge takes about an hour, and is mildly difficult.
Royal College Port-Louis (Mauritius)
The Royal College of Port Louis is a state owned boys high school located at Cassis, Mauritius. It is commonly referred to as RCPL. The first stone of the school's building at Cassis was laid by Princess Margaret during her first visit to Mauritius in 1956. RCPL is considered to be one of the most prestigious secondary institutions of the island. It admits only those having achieved the highest levels at the end of their Primary Education.
Aapravasi Ghat
The Immigration Depot is a building complex located in Port Louis, on the Indian Ocean island of Mauritius, which was the first British colony to receive indentured, or contracted, labor workforce from India. From 1849 to 1923, half a million Indian indentured labourers passed through the Immigration Depot, to be eventually transported to plantations throughout the British Empire.
State Bank Tower
The State Bank Tower is a high-rise building in the capital city of Mauritius, Port Louis. The 16-storey tower contrary to popular belief, is not the tallest building in Port Louis. It is the fourth tallest building and only steel frame skeleton high-rise on the island. It was designed by Campbell Reith Hill. In February 1994, it was damaged by cyclone Hollanda which hit Mauritius with windspeeds of over 200 km/h when the building's construction tower crane smashed and tore on the high-rise.

Champ de Mars Racecourse
The Champ de Mars Racecourse is a thoroughbred horse race track in Port Louis, Mauritius. The Racecourse was inaugurated on 25 June 1812, by The Mauritius Turf Club (MTC) which was founded earlier in the same year by Colonel Edward A. Draper. The Mauritius Turf Club is the oldest horse-racing club in the Southern Hemisphere and the second oldest in the world.
Blue Penny Museum
The Blue Penny Museum is a stamp museum at Caudan Waterfront in Port Louis, the capital of Mauritius. It opened in November 2001. The museum collection includes the 1847 Blue Penny and Red Penny stamps. The stamps were bought in 1993 for $2,000,000 by a consortium of Mauritian enterprises headed by The Mauritius Commercial Bank and brought back to Mauritius after almost 150 years. For conservation, the originals are illuminated only temporarily. Most of the time only copies are to be seen.
Rivière du Tombeau
Rivière du Tombeau is a river in northwestern Mauritius. Its source is on the slopes of Pieter Both Mountain, from where it flows north and then west for a total of 16 kilometres, reaching the Indian ocean at Baie-du-Tombeau, north of the capital of Port Louis.
State House (Mauritius)
The State House or The Château of Réduit is the official Residence of the President of Mauritius. Originally Le Réduit, it was built as a fortress for defense against attack by Pierre Félix Barthelemy David in 1749. The mansion is in Réduit, Moka, near of the University of Mauritius and the end of the Plaines Wilhems District. It used to serve as the residence for former governors of Mauritius, but now it is the residence of the President. It's built on 240 acres .

Sainte-Croix, Mauritius
Sainte-Croix is a town in the Port Louis District, Mauritius, Africa. It is most famous for its association with the Roman Catholic beatus Jacques-Désiré Laval, who worked in Sainte-Croix as a missionary from 1841 until his death in 1864. He is now buried at the Church of Sainte-Croix, and is thus a place of pilgrimage for Catholics in Mauritius.
Moka Range
The Moka Range is a mountain range in Mauritius. It contains two of Mauritius's three tallest peaks, Pieter Both and Le Pouce. It was formed from a basalt lava dome ten million years ago. The Moka Range forms a semicircle around the capital of Mauritius, Port Louis.
Le Pouce
Le Pouce is the third highest mountain in Mauritius, at 812 meters (2664 feet). Only Piton de la Petite Rivière Noire (828 m) and Pieter Both (820 m) are taller. It is named Le Pouce because of the thumb-shaped peak of the mountain. It can be viewed from the capital of Mauritius, Port Louis, and is a popular hike for the view of the city. The mountain is in the Moka Range and is closest to the village of La Laura-Malenga in the Moka District. Charles Darwin ascended the mountain on 2 May 1836.
La Laura-Malenga
La Laura-Malenga is a village in the Moka District in Mauritius. The population was 1,230 in 2000 and is estimated to be 1,336 as of 2012. The village got its name "La Laura-Malenga" in 1859. The name came from a 19th century sugar estate. Le Pouce, the third-highest mountain in Mauritius, is close to this village.
