Ss. Cyril and Methodius University of Skopje

The Saints Cyril and Methodius University of Skopje (Macedonian: Универзитет „Св. Кирил и Методиј“ – Скопје) is the largest university in the Republic of Macedonia. It was named after the Byzantine brothers Cyril and Methodius, also known as the 'Apostles to the Slavs', enlighteners who developed the precursors to Cyrillic script used today in most Slavic languages. More than 50,000 students study at the Skopje University, including some 700 foreign students.

Skopje Aqueduct

The Skopje Aqueduct is an archaeological site located in the village of Vizbegovo 2 km northwest from central Skopje, Macedonia. The Skopje Aqueduct is the only aqueduct in Macedonia, and one of three largest and well preserved in the former Yugoslavia along with Diocletianus Aqueduct near Split, Croatia and Bar Aqueduct in Montenegro. The question of when the Skopje Aqueduct was built is unclear even today.

20th Chess Olympiad

The 20th Chess Olympiad, organized by FIDE and comprising an open team tournament, as well as several other events designed to promote the game of chess, took place between September 18 and October 13, 1972, in Skopje, Yugoslavia. For the first time, the Soviet team only comprised 5 GMs and one IM (Savon). Since Bobby Fischer had beaten Spassky earlier in the year, the team wasn't led by the current world champion - also a first.

Museum of Macedonia

Museum of Macedonia (Macedonian: Музеј на Македонија, Muzej na Makedonija) is a national institution in the Republic of Macedonia and one of the oldest museums in the country. The Museum of Macedonia was created by joining three museum in one. The three museum that were unified were the archaeological, historical and ethnological museum, of which the archaeological museum was the oldest one; it was opened in 1924 and that date is considered as an establishing date of the national museum.

Contemporary Art Museum of Macedonia

The Contemporary Art Museum of Macedonia is one of the largest and most complete national institution of the Republic of Macedonia. Located in the capital city of Skopje, the museum was founded in 1963 following the disastrous earthquake that hit the city. The building project was donated by the Polish Government.
