Irbid

Irbid, known in ancient times as Arabella or Arbela, is the capital and largest city of the Irbid Governorate. It also has the second largest metropolitan population in Jordan after Amman, with a population of around 660,000, and is located about 70 km north of Amman on the northern ridge of the Gilead, equidistant from Pella, Beit Ras, and Um Qais. The city of Irbid is the third largest city in Jordan by population. Metropolitan Irbid is the second largest.

Yarmouk River

The Yarmouk River is the largest tributary of the Jordan River. It drains much of the Hauran Plateau. It is one of three main tributaries which enter the Jordan between the Sea of Galilee and the Dead Sea. To the south, are the Jabbok/Zarqa and the Arnon/Wadi Mujib) rivers. The Yarmouk forms the border between Israel and Jordan close to the Jordan Valley and between Syria and Jordan further upstream. It is the southern boundary of the Golan Heights.

The name means "hot springs of Gadara", referring to the several mineral springs with temperatures up to 50°C. Gadara, modern Umm Qais in Jordan, is 4 kilometres away. Abila Dekapoleos – Abila in the Decapolis or Abila was an ancient city, near the Hieromax river in the Decapolis; the site is occupied by two tells and the village of Hartha, approximately 13 km north-northeast of Irbid, Jordan. The site is 25 km east of the Sea of Galilee and 4 km south of Wadi Yarmouk river. The name "Abila" is derived from the Semitic word Abel (in Hebrew, "meadow" and in Arabic, "green growth")

Abila – also, Biblical: Abel-Shittim or Ha-Shittim (or simply Shittim) – was an ancient city east of the Jordan River in Moab, later Peraea, near Livias, about twelve km northeast of the north shore of the Dead Sea; the site is now that of Abil-ez-Zeit, Jordan. King Abdullah University Hospital

Huwwarah, also spelled Huwwara and Huwarrah, is a village in northern Jordan. It is situated in the Governorate of Irbid, and is one of many agricultural villages in the fertile mud plains of Hauran.
