Ospedale della Pietà
The Ospedale della Pietà was a convent, orphanage, and music school in Venice. Like other Venetian ospedali, the Pietà was established (in a location remote from the Riva degli Schiavoni) as a hotel for Crusaders. As the Crusades abated, it changed by degrees into a charitable institution for orphans and abandoned girls. Infants could be left at the Pietà via the scaffetta, a small window large to admit only infants. Not all infants were female, nor were they necessarily orphans.
San Zaccaria, Venice
San Zaccaria is a church in Venice, northern Italy, dedicated to St. Zacharias, the father of John the Baptist, whose body it supposedly contains. It is a large edifice, located in the quiet Campo San Zaccaria, just off the waterfront to the south east of St. Mark's basilica. The present church was built in a mixture of Gothic and Renaissance styles between 1444 and 1515.

San Giorgio Maggiore
San Giorgio Maggiore is one of the islands of Venice, northern Italy, lying east of the Giudecca and south of the main island group. The isle is surrounded by Canale della Grazia, Canale della Giudecca, Saint Mark Basin, Canale di San Marco and the southern lagoon. It forms part of the San Marco sestiere. The island was probably occupied in the Roman period; after the foundation of Venice it was called Insula Memmia after the Memmo family who owned it.
Venetian Arsenal
The Venetian Arsenal (Italian: Arsenale di Venezia) was a complex of state-owned shipyards and armories clustered together in Venice in northern Italy. It was responsible for the bulk of Venice's naval power during the middle part of the second millennium AD. It was "one of the earliest large-scale industrial enterprises in history".
Sant'Elena
Sant'Elena is an island of Venice. It lies at the eastern tip of the main island group and forms part of sestiere of Castello. The original island was separated by an arm of the Venetian Lagoon from Venice itself, and was centred on the Church of Sant'Elena and its monastery, originally built in the twelfth century and rebuilt in the 15th. The island has since been expanded to fill in the gap and is linked by Venice by three bridges.

Stadio Pierluigi Penzo is a multi-use stadium in Venice, Italy. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home ground of F.B.C. Unione Venezia. The football opposing teams and fans have to come by boat or train.
Giardini della Biennale (Venice)
The Venice giardini is an area of parkland in the historic city of Venice which hosts the Venice Biennale Art Festival, a major part of the city's cultural biennale. The gardens were created by Napoleon Bonaparte who drained an area of marshland in order to create a public garden on the banks of the Bacino di San Marco which is a narrow stretch of water dividing the gardens from St. Mark's Square and the Doge's Palace. The gardens contain 30 permanent pavilions.
Church of San Giorgio Maggiore
San Giorgio Maggiore is a 16th century Benedictine church on the island of the same name in Venice, northern Italy, designed by Andrea Palladio, and built between 1566 and 1610. The church is a basilica in the classical renaissance style and its brilliant white marble gleams above the blue water of the lagoon opposite the Piazzetta and forms the focal point of the view from every part of the Riva degli Schiavoni.
Piraeus Lion
The Piraeus Lion is one of four lion statues on display at the Venetian Arsenal, where it was displayed as a symbol of Venice's patron saint, Saint Mark. It was originally located in Piraeus, the harbour of Athens. It was looted by Venetian naval commander Francesco Morosini in 1687 as plunder taken in the Great Turkish War against the Ottoman Empire, during which the Venetians besieged Athens and Morosini's cannons caused damage to the Parthenon only matched by his subsequent looting.
Castello, Venice
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri of Venice, Italy. The district grew up from the thirteenth century around a naval dockyard on what was originally the Isole Gemini, although there had been small settlements of the islands of San Pietro di Castello (for which the sestiere is named), also called Isola d'Olivolo, since at least the eighth century. The district became divided between the Arsenale, then the largest naval complex in Europe, and the monasteries in the north of the quarter.

San Giovanni in Bragora
San Giovanni in Bragora is a church in Venice, Italy, located in the sestiere of Castello. It was founded in the early 8th century, allegedly by St. Magnus of Oderzo; in the following century, under doge Pietro III Candiano, it was rebuilt to house the alleged relics of St. John the Baptist, to whom it is entitled, and again in 1178. Pietro Barbo, future Pope Paul II, and Antonio Vivaldi were baptised in the church.
Santa Giustina, Venice
Santa Giustina di Venezia is a church building in the sestiere of Castello, Venice. It no longer functions as a church. It was initially rebuilt in the second half of the 15th century by Augustinian nuns. The Convent was suppressed in 1896. The building garlanded with Istrian marble, was initially commissioned by the procurator of St. Mark, Giovanni Soranzo, who asked Baldassare Longhena to design and build the church in 1636-77.
San Martino, Venice
San Martino di Venezia is a church in the sestiere of Castello of Venice. The church now stands near the Arsenale, and is officiated by a military chaplain. Initially founded in the 10th century, from 1546-1610, it was rebuilt based on a plan by Jacopo Sansovino. The facade (1897) was designed by Federico Berchet and Domenico Rupolo. The vault is frescoed with Saint Martin in Glory by Jacopo Guarana, with the quadratura painted by Domenico Bruni.
San Lorenzo, Venice
San Lorenzo false in the sestiere of Castello of Venice, northern Italy. The church dates to the 9th century, and became attached to the neighboring Benedictine monastery. It was rebuilt in 1580-1616 to designs by Simone Sorela. The high altar was partly sculpted by Giovanni Maria da Cannaregio using designs by Girolamo Campagna. The latter sculptor completed the statues of Saints Lawrence and Sebastian.
San Giorgio dei Greci
San Giorgio dei Greci or in Greek Άγιος Γεώργιος των Ελλήνων ("Saint George of the Greeks", although this name was never used until the late 19th century as "Hellene" was considered to mean pagan until then) is a church in the sestiere or neighborhood of Castello, Venice, northern Italy. It was the center of the Scuola dei Greci, the Confraternity of the Greeks in Venice. For centuries, despite the close ties of Venice to the Byzantine world, the Greek Orthodox rite was not permitted in Venice.

San Pietro di Castello (church)
The Basilica di San Pietro di Castello (English: Basilica of St Peter of Castello), commonly called San Pietro di Castello, is a Roman Catholic minor basilica of the Patriarch of Venice located in the Castello sestiere of the Italian city of Venice. The present building dates from the 16th century, but a church has stood on the site since at least the 7th century. From 1451 to 1807, it was the city's cathedral church, serving as both the spiritual and administrative centre of religious Venice.
La Certosa
La Certosa is an island in the Venetian Lagoon, northern Italy. It is located north-east of Venice, less than 250 meters from San Pietro di Castello and little more than 500 meters from the Venice; a ca. 20 m-wide channel separates it from the Vignole island. La Certosa has a surface of some 22 ha.

San Biagio, Venice
San Biagio is a church dedicated to Saint Blaise, in the sestiere of Castello in Venice, northern Italy. The church now stands adjacent to the Museo Storico Navale, and is officiated by a military chaplain. Till 1511, this served as the church for the Greek community which had emigrated to Venice after the fall of Constantinople. It was rebuilt in 1745-1752, likely to plans of Filippo Rossi. The vault was frescoed by Giovanni Scajaro with Saint Blaise in Glory.
Santa Maria della Pietà, Venice
The church of Santa Maria della Pietà or della Visitazione is a prominent church in the sestiere of Castello in Venice, Italy. It is sited with its facade on the Riva degli Schiavoni, a short promenade from the Doge's Palace. Historically, it is remembered as the church associated with Vivaldi and his young female musicians. The present church was built from 1745-1760 adjacent to the site of an earlier church, and adjacent to the orphanage and hospital, the Ospedale della Pietà.
Sant'Antonin, Venice
Sant'Antonin is a church in the sestiere of Castello in Venice, Italy. The church was initially founded by the patrician Badoer family in the seventh century. It was reconstructed in the 12th century, and again in 1680, under designs of Baldassare Longhena. The bell-tower was added in 1750. The chapel on the left, dedicated to St Saba, was frescoed by Alessandro Vittoria on the walls, and in the ceiling by Sebastiano Ricci with Saints Saba and Antonin.
