Garden of Ridván, Baghdad

The Garden of Ridván (lit. garden of paradise) or Najibiyyih Garden was a wooded garden in what is now Baghdad's Rusafa District, on the banks of the Tigris river. It is notable as the location where Bahá'u'lláh, founder of the Bahá'í Faith, stayed for twelve days from April 21 to May 2, 1863, after the Ottoman Empire exiled him from Baghdad and before commencing his journey to Constantinople.

Haifa Street

Haifa Street (or Hayfa Street) is a two mile long street in Baghdad, Iraq. Along with Yafa Street (named after the port city of Jaffa), it runs southeast to the Assassin's Gate, an archway that served as the main entrance to the American-run Green Zone during the 2003 invasion of Iraq, paralleling the Tigris river. It was named "Haifa" in the 1980s by Saddam Hussein in honor of the port city of Haifa. The street is lined with many high-rise buildings.

3 February 2007 Baghdad market bombing

The 3 February 2007 Baghdad market bombing was the detonation of a large truck bomb in a busy market in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad on 3 February 2007. The suicide attack killed at least 135 people and injured 339 others. The bomb, estimated to be about one ton in weight, brought down at least 10 buildings and coffee shops and obliterated market stalls in a largely Shi‘ite enclave less than a half mile from the Tigris River.

Administrative districts in Baghdad

There are nine administrative districts in the city of Baghdad, the capital of Iraq, that correspond to the nine district advisory councils. The Baghdad Security Plan used these nine districts as the nine security districts. These were formed in 2003 following the invasion of Iraq. District council members are selected from the 89 Neighborhood Advisory Councils in Baghdad. The number of neighborhood representatives on the district council is based upon the community's population.

Al Rasheed Street

Al Rasheed Street or Al Rashid Street is located in Downtown Baghdad and is one of the city's main streets, stretching from North Gate to South Gate. The origin of Al Rasheed Street goes back to the Ottomans who ruled Iraq from 1534 to 1918. During that time, the only known public street in Baghdad was Al Naher Street (Shari al-Naher). Al Naher means River - the street stretches a few kilometers along the east banks of the river Tigris, so this may be the reasoning behind its name.

The Khan Murjan‎ is a building in the souq of Baghdad, Iraq. The structure was first built in the 14th century as a caravanserai, an inn for traveling merchants, whose center was a hall more than 13 metres high. The building was reputedly in a state of disrepair for over two centuries, with waist-high flood water from the Tigris standing in the famous hallway.

Package Q Strike

The Package Q Airstrike was the largest air strike of the Gulf War, and the largest strike of F-16s in military history. Many aircraft including the F-117 were used to attack targets in Baghdad, which was the most heavily defended area of Iraq.
