Buda

Buda is the western part of the Hungarian capital Budapest on the west bank of the Danube. The name Buda takes its name from the name of Bleda the Hun ruler, whose name is also Buda in Hungarian. Buda comprises about one-third of Budapest's complete territory and is mostly wooded and hilly. Notable landmarks include the Buda Castle and the Citadella. The Hungarian president's residence, Sándor Palace, is also in Buda.

Kingdom of Hungary

The Kingdom of Hungary was a multilingual, multiethnic and (as the meaning from the 19th century) multinational country in Central Europe covering what is today Hungary, Slovakia, Transylvania (now part of Romania), Carpathian Ruthenia (now part of Ukraine), Vojvodina (now part of Serbia), Burgenland (now part of Austria), and other smaller territories surrounding present-day Hungary's borders. From 1102 it also included Croatia, being in personal union with it, united under the Hungarian king.

Hungarian Soviet Republic

The Hungarian Soviet Republic or Hungarian Republic of Councils (Hungarian: Magyarországi Tanácsköztársaság or Magyarországi Szocialista Szövetséges Tanácsköztársaság) was a short-lived independent Communist state established in Hungary in the aftermath of World War I. It was the successor of the Hungarian Democratic Republic and lasted only from 21 March until 1 August 1919. The state was led by Béla Kun and was not recognized by France, the U.K. or the U.S.

Petőfi Bridge

Petőfi híd or Petőfi Bridge (named after Sándor Petőfi, old name is Horthy Miklós Bridge, named after governor Miklós Horthy) is a bridge in Budapest, connecting Pest and Buda across the Danube. Rákóczi Bridge

Rákóczi Bridge (Hungarian: Rákóczi híd, formerly known as Lágymányosi híd / Lágymányosi Bridge) is a bridge in Budapest, Hungary, connecting the settlements of Buda and Pest across the Danube. The construction of the steel girder bridge was started in 1992 to the plans of Tibor Sigrai. It is named after the Rákóczi family. This bridge is the southernmost and the second newest public bridge in the capital; it was inaugurated in 1995.

A38 (ship)

A38 is the reincarnation of an Ukrainian stone-carrier ship. With its inauguration on 30 April 2003, it started a new life on the Danube in Budapest, Hungary as a cultural venue. Since its opening it has become one of Budapest's most important venues, and according to artists' feedback, one of Europe's coolest clubs. The programming of the ship is very broad in terms of styles and genres but consistent in quality standards. The A38 is a member of the Trans Europe Halles organization.

Hotel Gellért

Hotel Gellért is a famous, first class four star hotel in Budapest, Hungary. The hotel was erected on the right bank of the river Danube between 1916 and 1918 in the Art Nouveau style with some biomorphic elements, at the foot of Gellért Hill, next to Szabadság Bridge. The four star Danubius Hotel Gellért, onetime Saint Gellért Hotel and Spa, was renovated in 1962 and in 1973. The spa, swimming pool and plaza built to the hotel is one of the most beautiful spas in Budapest.

National Theatre (Budapest)

Móricz Zsigmond körtér

Móricz Zsigmond körtér is a square in Budapest, Hungary. Located in Újbuda, or Budapest's 11th District at the convergence of some of Budapest's major boulevards Bela Bartok ut and Villanyi ut, the square in close proximity to the River Danube. Named after famous Hungarian writer Zsigmond Móricz in 1945, it remains a prominent location within the city, and was a scene of fierce fighting in the 1956 Hungarian Revolution.

Gellért Hill Cave

The Gellért Hill Cave is part of a network of caves within Gellért Hill in Budapest, Hungary. The cave is also referred to as "Saint Ivan's Cave" (Szent Iván-barlang), regarding a hermit who lived there and is believed to have used the natural thermal water of a muddy lake next to the cave to heal the sick. It is likely that this same water fed the pools of the old Sáros fürdő ("Muddy Baths"), now called Gellért Baths.

Kingdom of Hungary (1920–1946)

The Kingdom of Hungary, also known as the Regency, existed from 1920 to 1946 as a de facto country under Regent Miklós Horthy. Horthy officially represented the Hungarian monarchy of Charles IV, Apostolic King of Hungary. Újbuda

Újbuda (lit. New Buda) is the 11th district of Budapest (Hungarian: Budapest XI. kerület), Hungary. It is the most populous district of Budapest with 137,426 inhabitants (2008). Until the 1890s Újbuda's present territory was a field south to the historical town of Buda. The construction of a new residential area started in the 1900s, the present district was formed in 1930. Lake Feneketlen

Lake Feneketlen (Feneketlen-tó, "Bottomless Lake") is a lake in the 11th district of Budapest, Hungary. The lake was formed in 1877, when clay was removed from the site to supply a brick factory that was situated at nearby Kosztolányi Dezső tér. The lake's water quality in the 1980s began to deteriorate, until a water circulation device was built. The lake today is a popular urban place for fishing.
