Saxon Switzerland
Saxon Switzerland is a hilly climbing area and national park around the Elbe valley south-east of Dresden in Saxony, Germany. Together with the Bohemian Switzerland in the Czech Republic it forms the Elbe Sandstone Mountains. Saxon Switzerland alone has some 1,000 climbing peaks, as well as several hollows. The area is popular with Dresden locals and international climbers. The administrative district for the area is Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge.
Bad Schandau Elevator
The Bad Schandau elevator is a passenger truss-tower elevator built in 1904 at Bad Schandau, which runs from Bad Schandau on the Ostrau. The height of the elevator is 52.26 m, in art nouveau arranged steel framework tower upward, which has a diameter of 5.20 m at the ground and at the door such of 2.5 metres. On the way upward it overcomes a difference in height of 47.76 m.
Pflanzengarten Bad Schandau
The Pflanzengarten Bad Schandau (6100 m²) is a botanical garden located in the Saxon Switzerland National Park on the Kirnitzschtalstraße, Bad Schandau, Saxony, Germany. It is open daily in the warmer months. The garden opened in 1902 as the Regionalbotanischer Garten Sachsens (Saxon Regional Botanical Garden), with a goal of preserving local plants, including rare poisonous and medicinal plants.
Schrammsteine
The Schrammsteine are a long, strung-out, very jagged group of rocks in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains located east of Bad Schandau in Saxon Switzerland in East Germany. To the north they are bordered by the Kirnitzsch valley, to the south by the Elbe valley and to the east by the Affensteine rocks. The high point of the chain lies at over 400 m above sea level. The viewing point on the Schrammsteine lies at a height of 417.2 m above HN.
Saxon Switzerland climbing region
Saxon Switzerland is one of the best-known climbing regions in Germany. The region is largely coterminous with the natural region of the same name, Saxon Switzerland, but extends well beyond the territory of the National Park within it. It includes the western part of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains and is the oldest non-Alpine climbing region in Germany. Its birth is usually reckoned to be the first ascent in modern times of the Falkenstein in 1864 by Bad Schandau gymnasts.
Reinhardtsdorf Sandstone
Reinhardtsdorf Sandstone (German: Reinhardtsdorfer Sandstein, also Oberquader or Hauptsandstein) is quarried in the vicinity of Reinhardtsdorf near Pirna in the district of Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge in the German Free State of Saxony. It is the so-called main sandstone of the Elbe sandstones, and was formed in the Middle Turonian. In 2008 there was one quarry that won this particular sandstone.
