The Battle of Crucifix Hill was a World War II battle that took place on 8 October 1944, on Crucifix Hill (Haarberg), next to the village of Haaren in Germany and was a part of the U.S. 1st Division's campaign to seize Aachen, Germany. The Battle of Aachen was part of the Drive to the Siegfried Line. The hill was named after a large crucifix mounted on the top of the hill.

The Soers is a country in Aachen, which is one of the districts of Aachen and Aachen-Laurensberg. The predominantly rural district today stretches from out of town nearby the slopes of hill (Lousberg) in the north. The Soers is a wetland that is drained by several rivers. At the northern end of the Soers leaves the Wurm is the only drain the Wurm the Aachen Basin. It is known to Soers mainly through the Old Tivoli, the former football stadium of Alemannia Aachen.
