The Palatine Chapel is an Early Medieval chapel that is the remaining component of Charlemagne's Palace of Aachen. Although the palace no longer exists, the chapel has been incorporated into the Aachen Cathedral, Germany. It is the city's major landmark and the central monument of the Carolingian Renaissance. Burtscheid Abbey

Burtscheid Abbey was a house of the Benedictine Order, after 1220 a Cistercian nunnery, located at Burtscheid, near Aachen, North Rhine-Westphalia, in Germany. It was founded in 997 under Emperor Otto III. The first abbot, Gregory, who came to Burtscheid from Calabria, is sometimes said to have been the brother of Theophanu, Byzantine mother of the Emperor.

Burtscheid

Burtscheid is a town in western Germany, near Aachen. It was founded in 997 AD and was an independent town till 1897. From 1816 it was administrative capital of the district of Aachen. In 1897 Burtscheid became part of the city of Aachen. It is part of the Aachen-Mitte Stadtbezirk. Inhabited since ancient times by Celts and Romans, who were attracted by the presence of hot springs. Burtscheid Abbey was founded here in 997 by emperor Otto III, and finished in 1016-1018.

Palace of Aachen

The Palace of Aachen was a group of buildings with residential, political and religious purposes chosen by Charlemagne to be the centre of power of the Carolingian Empire. Theater Aachen

Theater Aachen is a theatre in Aachen, Germany. It is the principal venue in that city for operas, musical theatre, plays, and concerts. It is the home of the Aachen Symphony Orchestra. Construction on the original theatre began in 1822 and it opened on 15 May 1825. A bomb attack on 14 July 1943 completely destroyed the first theatre, and the current structure was inaugurated on 3 December 1951 with a performance of Richard Wagner's Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg.

The Aachen tramway network was the backbone of public transport in Aachen, in the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany and the surrounding areas from 1880 to 1974. At times, the network also extended into Belgium and the Netherlands. At its maximum extent, its route length was 181.4 kilometers and its line length was 213.5 kilometers. In 1914, it was the fourth largest tramway network in Germany. Also, it was one of the most extensive German interurban networks.
