Hans Conrad Schumann (March 28, 1942 – June 20, 1998) was an East German soldier who famously defected to West Germany during the construction of the Berlin Wall in 1961.
Bernauer Straße
Bernauer Straße is a street of Berlin situated between the localities of Gesundbrunnen and Mitte, today both belonging to the Mitte borough. It runs from the Mauerpark at the corner of Prenzlauer Berg to the Nordbahnhof. The street's name refers to the town of Bernau bei Berlin, situated in Brandenburg. When Berlin was a divided city, the Berlin Wall erected in 1961 ran along this street.
Max-Schmeling-Halle
Max-Schmeling-Halle is a multi-purpose arena, in Berlin, Germany, named after the famous German boxer Max Schmeling. Apart from the Velodrom, it's one of Berlin's biggest sport places and holds from 8,861 people, up to 11,000 people. The opening ceremony happened on December 14, 1996, in the presence of Max Schmeling.
Osloer Straße (Berlin U-Bahn)
Osloer Straße is a Berlin U-Bahn station in the Gesundbrunnen district, located on the U8 and U9. Like the eponymous street it is named after the City of Oslo. The two-level station opened on 30 April 1976 (U9) and 5 October 1977 (U8). Since 1995 it is also served by the M13 line of the Berlin Straßenbahn. Architect was R.G. Rümmler.
Pankstraße (Berlin U-Bahn)
Pankstraße is a Berlin U-Bahn station located on the U8. It was opened on October 5, 1977 (Rümmler) with the line's extension from Gesundbrunnen to Osloer Straße. The station's name derives from its location: It sits under the intersection of Pankstraße and Badstraße. The actual spelling of the station's name is under debate. The German orthographic rules call for the spelling "Pankstraße", but the signs inside the station spell "Pankstrasse".
Voltastraße (Berlin U-Bahn)
Voltastraße is a Berlin U-Bahn station located on the U8. Built in 1914 but opened in 1930 (by A. Grenander) it has granite columns and is built only 4,5m beyond the street. During the first world war the station could not be finished, so it was opened 1930.
Bernauer Straße (Berlin U-Bahn)
Bernauer Straße is a Berlin U-Bahn station located on the U8. Built by the subway architect A. Grenander in 1930 this station was a station of the GN Bahn (Gesundbrunnen-Neukölln) of line D. In April 1945 it was closed due to World War II. Opened again in May 1945 until building of the Berlin wall on 13 August 1961. The entrance on the south (East Germany side) was closed. Trains from western Berlin passed the station without stopping. It was opened again in 1990 when Germany was united.
Kopenhagener Straße
The Kopenhagener Straße in Berlin's Prenzlauer Berg district runs parallel to the Ringbahn tracks between busy Schönhauser Allee in the East all the way to the Mauerpark in the West, where the Berlin Wall separated the Soviet from the French sector. The street was named on 30 April 1899 after the Danish capital Copenhagen.
Peter Leibing
Peter Leibing (1941 – November 2, 2008) was a German photographer known for his 1961 photographs of escaping East German border guard, Conrad Schumann jumping a barbed wire fence during construction of the Berlin Wall. Leibing was born in Hamburg in 1941. On 15 August 1961 Leibing, working for the Hamburg picture agency Contiepress, had been tipped by police that an East German border guard might escape the Berlin Wall, then in its third day of construction.
Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn-Sportpark
The Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn-Sportpark is a sports site in the Prenzlauer Berg district of Berlin. In the south it borders on the Eberswalder Straße, in the north on the Max Schmeling Halle, in the west on the Mauerpark, where part of the Berlin Wall once stood. It includes a football and athletics stadium as well as several smaller sports fields. The stadium is the second largest in the city after Berlin's Olympiastadion with 20,000 seats (15,000 covered) and is used by football sides 1.

Stadion am Gesundbrunnen
Stadion am Gesundbrunnen was a multi-use stadium in Berlin, Germany. It was initially used as the stadium of Hertha BSC matches. During the 1936 Summer Olympics, it hosted some of the football matches. It was replaced by the current Olympic Stadium when Hertha joined the Bundesliga in 1963. In 1974, Hertha sold the ground to avoid bankruptcy. The capacity of the stadium was 35,239 spectators.

Gedenkstätte Berliner Mauer
The Gedenkstätte Berliner Mauer (Berlin Wall Memorial) commemorates the division of Berlin by the Berlin Wall and the deaths that occurred there. The monument was created in 1998 by the Federal Republic of Germany and the Federal State of Berlin. It is located on Bernauer Straße at the corner of Ackerstraße and includes a Chapel of Reconciliation, the Berlin Wall Documentation Centre, a 60-metre section of the former border, a window of remembrance and a visitor centre.
