East Berlin
East Berlin existed between 1949 and 1990. It comprised the eastern regions of Berlin and consisted of the Soviet sector of Berlin that was established in 1945. The American, British and French sectors became West Berlin, a part strongly associated with West Germany. East Berlin was claimed as the capital of East Germany. From 13 August 1961 until 9 November 1989, East Berlin was separated from West Berlin by the Berlin Wall.
Nazi Germany
Nazi Germany, also known as the Third Reich, is the common name for Germany during the period when its government was controlled by Adolf Hitler and his National Socialist German Workers' Party. Under Hitler's rule, Germany was a totalitarian state after the Gleichschaltung (coordination) process. Brandenburg-Prussia
Brandenburg-Prussia is the historiographic denomination for the Early Modern realm of the Brandenburgian Hohenzollerns between 1618 and 1701. Based in the Electorate of Brandenburg, the main branch of the Hohenzollern intermarried with the branch ruling the Duchy of Prussia, and secured succession upon the latter's extinction in the male line in 1618.
North German Confederation
The North German Confederation was a federation of 22 independent states of northern Germany, with nearly 30 million inhabitants. It was the first modern German nation state and the basis for the later German Empire (1870/1871), when several south German states such as Bavaria joined. Stadtschloss, Berlin
The Berlin City Palace or simply Berlin Palace (German: Berliner Stadtschloss, Berliner Schloss or simply Stadtschloss) was a royal palace in the centre of Berlin, the historical capital of Germany. It was located on the Museum Island at Schlossplatz, opposite the Lustgarten park. The palace was originally built in the 15th century and was changing through the next centuries.

Grand Duchy of Finland
The Grand Duchy of Finland (literally Grand Principality of Finland; Finnish: Suomen suuriruhtinaskunta, Swedish: Storfurstendömet Finland, Latin: Magnus Ducatus Finlandiæ, Russian: Великое княжество Финляндское, Velikoye knyazhestvo Finlyandskoye) was the predecessor state of modern Finland. It existed 1809–1917 as an autonomous part of the Russian Empire and was ruled by the Russian Emperor as Grand Prince.

Foreign Office (Germany)

The term "Auswärtiges Amt" was the name of the Foreign Office established in 1870 by the North German Confederation, which then became German Empire's Foreign Office in 1871. Spittelmarkt (Berlin U-Bahn)
Spittelmarkt is a Berlin U-Bahn station located on the U2 line in Mitte, at the eastern end of Leipziger Straße. It opened on 1 October 1908 (by A. Grenander), then the terminus of Berlin's second U-Bahn line, connecting it with Potsdamer Platz on the initial Stammstrecke route. It is named after Spittelmarkt square, former site of the Saint Gertrude hospital established about 1400.
Fischerinsel
Fischerinsel (Fisher Island) is the southern part of the island in the River Spree which was formerly the location of the city of Cölln and is now part of central Berlin. The northern part of the island is known as Museum Island. Fischerinsel is normally said to extend south from Gertraudenstraße and is named for a fishermen's settlement which formerly occupied the southern end of the island.
Bauakademie
The Bauakademie (English Building Academy) in Berlin, Germany, built between 1832 and 1836, is considered one of the forerunners of modern architecture due to its theretofore uncommon use of red brick and the relatively streamlined facade of the building.
Marx-Engels Forum
Marx-Engels-Forum is a public park in the central Mitte district of Berlin, the capital of Germany. It is named for Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, authors of The Communist Manifesto of 1848 and regarded as the founders of the Communist movement. The park was created by the authorities of the former German Democratic Republic (GDR) in 1986.

DDR Museum
The DDR Museum is an interactive museum in the centre of Berlin. The museum is located in the former governmental district of East Germany, right on the river Spree, opposite the Berlin Cathedral. The museum is the 11th most visited museum in Berlin. Its exhibition shows the daily life in East Germany (known in German as the Deutsche Demokratische Republik or DDR) in a direct "hands-on" way. For example, a covert listening device ("bug") gives visitors the sense of being "under surveillance".
Palasthotel
Palasthotel was a hotel belonging to the Interhotel-chain and situated in the Mitte-district of Berlin, at Karl-Liebknecht-Straße 5, right behind the Berliner Dom and close to the river Spree. It was built on a design by Ferenc Kiss between 1976 and 1979. The hotel had 600 rooms with 1,000 beds and a conference hall with about 2,000 seats. It was closed for all East German guests, as one had to pay in a hard currency instead of the local East German mark.
Jungfern Bridge
The Jungfern Bridge is a bridge in Berlin. It is the oldest bridge in Berlin. There have been nine predecessors on its site in Berlin-Mitte, spanning the Spree arm Kupfergraben and linking Friedrichsgracht to Oberwasserstraße.
Großgaststätte Ahornblatt
The Großgaststätte Ahornblatt (lit. "Great Maple Leaf Restaurant") was a building located in the Mitte district of Berlin. Built between 1971 and 1973 as part of the new Fischerinsel residential condominium project, it accommodated a self service restaurant with 880 seats and a shopping arcade for the employees of the East German Ministry of Construction and for the workers of other nearby offices. Despite protests, the building was demolished in 2000.
National Kaiser Wilhelm Monument
The National Kaiser Wilhelm Monument (Kaiser-Wilhelm-Nationaldenkmal) was a monument to Wilhelm I in Berlin. It was sited near the Stadtschloss - both are now demolished. The planned Monument to Freedom and Unity is to be located on the same site.
Former Reichsbank building
The former Reichsbank building (in German the Haus am Werderschen Markt) is a building in Berlin, Germany, originally built in 1934–38 to house the Reichsbank, and today housing part of the Foreign Office. One of the remaining examples of Nazi architecture, the building was commissioned in 1933.
Neuer Marstall
The Neuer Marstall (English: New Stables) is a listed historic building in Berlin, Germany located on the Schloßplatz and the Spree River. Completed in 1901 and facing the former Royal Palace, the neo-Baroque "New Stables" once sheltered the Royal equerry, horses and carriages of Imperial Germany. The complex also included three enclosed courtyards, a riding school, and the Knights College.
Humboldt Box
The Humboldt Box is a futuristic museum structure on the Schloßplatz in the center of Berlin, Germany. It was built as a temporary exhibition space and viewing platform for the Berlin Palace - Humboldt Forum construction project and to inform the public about its future use.
Mühlendamm
Mühlendamm refers to the Mühlendammbrücke (Mill Dam Bridge) in East Berlin's Mitte district and the road crossing the Spree river between Gertaudenstraße and Molkenmarkt. Originally a dam was built at this location used for both crossing the river and for water mills. Later, after the installation of defenses, a lock enabled frequent changes in the crossing of the Spree. The current concrete bridge was built in 1968 and is part of the east–west road link to Berlin's city center.
