Old Elbe Tunnel or St. Pauli Elbe Tunnel which opened in 1911, is a pedestrian and vehicle tunnel in Hamburg, Germany. The 426 m (1,398 ft) long tunnel was a technical sensation; 24 m (80 ft) beneath the surface, two tubes with 6 m (20 ft) diameter connect central Hamburg with the docks and shipyards on the south side of the river Elbe. This meant a big improvement for tens of thousands of workers in one of the busiest harbours in the world.

Elbe 17

Elbe 17 is the third largest drydock in Germany, located in Hamburg and administrated by shipbuilding company Blohm + Voss. Completed in 1942 at a length of 351 meters and a width of 59 meters. It was, however, intended for construction of the massive H-class battleships. During World War II, it was used for repair work only and also served as an air shelter. After the war, the huge floatable metal gate was scrapped and the dock served as a harbour mooring place.

LZ 13 Hansa

Katharinenstraße 9

Katharinenstraße 9, also Catharinenstraße 9, was a town house in the centre of Hamburg, Germany, built c. 1630-1640. In 1939 the house was added to the list of monuments in central Hamburg. It was not removed until 1954, 13 years after its destruction in 1941. The building was known for its stucco ceiling, commissioned between 1716 and 1720 by the building's then owner (and later mayor of Hamburg) John Anderson the Elder.

Grimm (Hamburg)

Grimm (or The Grimm) is a former island in the Alster river at Hamburg, Germany, east of Cremon. Today there is a street in the old town, the road is probably on the island. Adolf III, Count of Schauenburg and Holstein had brought settlers from Westphalia to colonise the island. Its shore was built up after three floods from 1216 to 1219 and the island reclaimed. Up to 1300, the island was outside the city walls.
