United Arab Republic

The United Arab Republic, often abbreviated UAR, was a short-lived political union between Egypt and Syria. The union began in 1958 and existed until 1961, when Syria seceded from the union. Egypt continued to be known officially as the "United Arab Republic" until 1971. The President was Gamal Abdel Nasser. Cairo Governorate

Cairo Governorate is the most populated of the governorates of Egypt. Its capital is the national capital of Cairo. Because it is completely urbanized, the governorate is considered a city proper, and functions as a municipality. Parts of the governorate were separated in April 2008 to form the Helwan Governorate (reincorporated into the Cairo Governorate in April 2011).

Cairo University

Cairo University is a public university in Giza, Egypt. The university was founded on December 21, 1908, as the result of an effort to establish a national center for educational thought. Several constituent colleges preceded the establishment of the university including the College of Engineering (كلية الهندسة) in 1816, which was shut down by the Khedive of Egypt and Sudan, Sa'id Pasha, in 1854.

Dokki

El Dokki is a district of greater Giza, Egypt. Dokki is situated on the Western bank of the Nile, directly across from Downtown Cairo. Many Cairene landmarks are located in Dokki, the German school DEO and the embassies of many countries including Russia, Somalia, France, Chad, the Czech Republic and Ethiopia. Dokki is home to approximately 40 foreign embassies, a number surpassed only by the Zamalek district. King Idris of Libya died at the Palace in Dokki in 1983.

Cairo Opera House

Mokhtar El-Tetsh Stadium

Mokhtar El-Tetch Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Cairo, Egypt. It is currently used mostly for football matches and was the home of el-Ahly before they moved to Cairo International Stadium because of the small capacity. The stadium holds 8,000 people. Orman Garden

The Orman Garden is one of the most famous Botanical gardens in Egypt. It is located at Giza, in Cairo. Grand Nile Tower Hotel

2011 attack on the Israeli Embassy in Egypt

On 9 September 2011, several thousand protesters forcibly entered the Israeli embassy in Giza, Greater Cairo, after breaking down a recently constructed wall built to protect the compound. The protesters later broke into a police station and stole weapons, resulting in police using tear gas in an attempt to protect themselves. The demonstrators eventually broke through the security wall and entered the offices of the embassy.
