Al-Hakim Mosque

Al-Jam`e Al-Anwar also Al-Hakim Mosque is a major Islamic religious site in Cairo, Egypt. It is named after Imam Al-Hakim bi-Amr Allah (985–1021), the sixth Fatimid caliph,16 th Fatimid/Ismaili Imam and the first to be born in Egypt. The mosque was originally built as an enclosure by the Fatimid vizier Gawhar Al-Siqilli (c. 928–992), but was incorporated into the extended fortifications built by Badr al-Jamali. It consists of an irregular rectangle with four arcades surrounding the courtyard.

Al-Azhar University

Al-Azhar University is a university in Cairo, Egypt. Founded in 970 or 972 as a madrasa, or centre of Islamic learning, its students studied the Qur'an and Islamic law in detail, along with logic, grammar, rhetoric, and how to calculate the lunar phases of the moon. Al-Hussein Mosque

It is named for the grandson of Muhammad, Husayn ibn Ali, whose head is believed by Fatimid Shia/Dawoodi Bohra to be buried on the grounds of the mosque. The City of the Dead, or Cairo Necropolis (Qarafa, el-Arafa), is an Arabic necropolis and cemetery below the Mokattam Hills in southeastern Cairo, Egypt. 2008 Cairo landslide

The 2008 Cairo landslide happened on September 6, 2008, in Al-Duwayqa, an informal settlement in the Manshiyat naser neighborhood of east Cairo, Egypt. 119 people died in the rockslide. Boulders weighing as much as 70 tons rolled into the shantytown following the landslide. After most of the neighborhood had been flattened, those families still living in the slum were evicted and any remaining buildings were flattened by the government.

Al Musafir Khana Palace

The Musafir Khana Palace also known as the Musafirkana Palace was built in Cairo, Egypt between 1779 and 1788 by Mahmud Muharram; a wealthy merchant. Muhammad Ali Pasha bought the palace in early 19th century to use as a royal guesthouse. It was the birthplace of his grandson Khedive Ismai'l 1830-1895. In 1998, it burned to the ground. It was an excellent example of the Ottoman Style.
