1959 African Cup of Nations
The 1959 African Cup of Nations was the second edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, the football championship of Africa. It was hosted and won by the United Arab Republic, a short-lived confederation between Egypt and Syria. Only three teams participated: host team United Arab Republic, Sudan and Ethiopia. All three matches took place in Cairo.

Mokhtar El-Tetsh Stadium
Mokhtar El-Tetch Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Cairo, Egypt. It is currently used mostly for football matches and was the home of el-Ahly before they moved to Cairo International Stadium because of the small capacity. The stadium holds 8,000 people. The stadium was built and named after famous Egyptian football star Mahmoud Mokhtar El-Tetsh.

6th October Bridge
The 6th October Bridge is an elevated highway in central Cairo, Egypt. The 20.5 kilometres bridge and causeway crosses the Nile River twice from the west bank suburbs, east through Gezira Island to Downtown Cairo, and on to connect the city to the Cairo International Airport to the east. Its name commemorates the date of 'The Crossing' which commenced the outbreak day of the October War in 1973.

Mukhtar Museum
Mukhtar Museum is a museum in Cairo, Egypt, housing the sculptures of Mahmoud Mokhtar (May 10, 1891-March 28, 1934). Mokhtar is considered to be significant as the father of modern Egyptian sculpture. The museum building was designed by Ramses Wissa Wassef, and houses eighty-five bronze, stone, basalt, marble, granite and plaster works.
Shepheard's Hotel
Shepheard's Hotel was the leading hotel in Cairo and one of the most celebrated hotels in the world from the middle of the 19th century until it was burned down in 1952. A modern hotel called the Shepheard Hotel was built nearby in 1957.
Dubara Palace

Khairy Pasha palace
The neo-Mameluk building and former palace of Khairy Pacha is on 113 Qasr el-Aini Street, on Midan el Tahrir, Cairo and has served as the American University in Cairo's (AUC) Tahrir Square campus ('AUC Downtown' since 1920). The building in the photograph on the right was originally the Girls School of the Greek Community of Cairo. In 1964 it was sold to AUC and served as the 'Greek Campus'. Ideally the photograph should be replaced with one of the main AUC building.

Qasr al-Nil Bridge
The Qasr al-Nil Bridge (originally named Khedive Ismail Bridge) spans the Nile River in central Cairo, Egypt. It connects downtown Cairo to Gezira Island and the Zamalek district. At the bridge's east and west approaches there are two large stone lion statues flanking each entrance, they are late 19th century works by Henri Alfred Jacquemart; French sculptor and animalier. The newer and wider 6th October Bridge parallels its route 0.8 kilometres to the south.

Garden City (Cairo)
Garden City is an affluent district on the eastern Nile shore in Cairo, Egypt. It is between the Nile and Downtown Cairo, just south of Tahrir Square off Qasr al-Ayn Street. Garden City is most notable for its curved streets. It was originally designed by the British to surround the British embassy in Egypt.
The Mogamma
The Mogamma is a government building in Cairo, Egypt. The Mogamma was the result of a series of master plans for the Qasr el Nil area, which used to be occupied by the British Barracks. In 1947 when King Farouk ordered the demolition of the barracks upon the departure of British troops from the area, a series of urban planning proposals ensued. The idea for a centralized all-in-one administrative building emerged from the 1947 plans and construction began in 1948 and ended in 1951.
Grand Nile Tower Hotel
Located on Al-Roda Island, the Grand Nile Tower Hotel was built as Le Méridien Cairo. It was expanded with the addition of a 41 floor tower in 2003, when it was renamed the Grand Hyatt Cairo. The hotel has 714 rooms and includes a shopping mall and a rotating restaurant. It ceased to be managed by the Hyatt chain on March 20, 2011 due to unresolved contractual disputes with the hotel’s owner and is currently operated as an independent hotel.
Sofitel Cairo El Gezirah
Sofitel Cairo El Gezirah is a luxury hotel situated on the southern tip of Gezira Island in the Nile, in the Zamalek district just west of Downtown Cairo, Egypt. It is owned by Sofitel Luxury Hotels, a chain of hotels managed by France based Accor Hospitality. The hotel was fully renovated by famous hotel and restaurant interior architect Pierre-Yves Rochon and re-opened in September 2007. Since then, the hotel has won several awards like Star Diamond Award, Best 5 star new hotel in MENA, etc.

2011 Egyptian revolution
The Egyptian Revolution of 2011 took place following a popular uprising that began on 25 January 2011. It was a diverse movement of demonstrations, marches, plaza occupations, riots, non-violent civil resistance, acts of civil disobedience and labor strikes. Millions of protesters from a variety of socio-economic and religious backgrounds demanded the overthrow of the regime of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.
