Rivière des Prairies

The Rivière des Prairies (literally River of the Prairies, sometimes called the The Back River in English) is a delta channel of the Ottawa River in southwestern Quebec, Canada. The Amerindians who originally inhabited the Island of Montreal called it Skowanoti, meaning “River behind the island”. Flowing west to east, it bisects the Hochelaga Archipelago and rises in the Lac des Deux-Montagnes.

Rivière-des-Prairies–Pointe-aux-Trembles–Montréal-Est was a borough in the eastern end of Montréal, Québec. The borough was located at the eastern tip of the Island of Montréal. It was composed of parts of the City of Montreal prior to the January 1, 2002 municipal mergers, and the formerly independent municipality of Montréal-Est, Quebec. This was the only borough in the post-merger city that fused parts of the original city of Montréal with other former municipalities.

The Pie IX Bridge is a bridge in Quebec, spanning the Rivière des Prairies. It connects the Saint-Vincent-de-Paul area of Laval, on Île Jésus, and the borough of Montréal-Nord in Montreal, on the Island of Montreal. Autoroute 640 (or A-640) is a provincial superhighway that runs across the North Shore Region from Route 344 in the Oka area to Route 138, where it ends as a four-lane expressway in Charlemagne. It was designed as a northern bypass to Montreal and was originally intended to cross the Lake of Two Mountains to connect to Autoroute 40 near Vaudreuil, but that section is unlikely to be constructed. It is currently 54.8 km long.

Route 125 is a Quebec highway running from Montreal to Saint-Donat, Lanaudière, Quebec in the Lanaudière. The southern section of Route 125 runs parallel to Autoroute 25 in Laval, Mascouche, and Terrebonne. At Saint-Espirit, the Autoroute ends, and 125 continues northwards until the entrance to the Mont Tremblant Provincial Park north of Saint-Donat.

De la Concorde overpass collapse

The De la Concorde overpass collapse occurred at a bridge over Quebec Autoroute 19 near Montreal, Quebec, Canada, at midday on September 30, 2006. On that Saturday, around 12:30 pm, the center section of the south lane of an overpass collapsed in Laval, a suburb of Montreal, on Boulevard de la Concorde running over Autoroute 19. The collapsed section crushed two vehicles under it, killing five people and seriously injuring six others who went over the edge while travelling on the overpass.
