Beaver Island State Park
Beaver Island State Park is a New York state park located on Grand Island in northwestern Erie County, New York, in the United States. It is situated at the southern end of the island on the bank of the Niagara River and served by the Beaver Island Parkway, a 2.72-mile highway linking the park to Interstate 190 (I-190). The park features several amenities, including a USGA-recognized championship 18-hole, par-72 public golf course.
Anchor Bar
The Anchor Bar, possibly the birthplace of spicy chicken wings known outside the Buffalo area as Buffalo wings, is a restaurant located in Buffalo, New York. The restaurant was initially established in 1935. Teressa Bellissimo is credited with the creation of the dish when she deep-fried some wings and covered them in Frank's RedHot hot sauce and butter. Chicken wings were previously used for soup or simply thrown away. She served them with blue cheese dip as hors d'oeuvres at the bar.
Battle of Fort Erie (1866)
The Battle of Fort Erie was a bloody skirmish in the afternoon immediately following the Battle of Ridgeway on June 2, 1866 in Canada West. The Fenian force, withdrawing from Ridgeway towards the United States, met and defeated a small force of Canadian militia at Fort Erie, then known as the village of Waterloo.
International Railway Bridge
The International Railway Bridge carries a railway line across the Niagara River between Fort Erie, Ontario and Buffalo, New York. It was built in 1873 for the International Bridge Company by Casimir Stanislaus Gzowski and D.L. MacPherson. The bridge consists of two sections, the first extending from the Canadian shore to Squaw Island, NY, and the second extending from Squaw Island to the American mainland shore.
Peace Bridge Arena
Peace Bridge Arena was the main sports arena located in Fort Erie, Ontario. Built in 1928, it held 5,000 people. It was located near the Peace Bridge connecting Fort Erie with Buffalo, New York. Both the Chicago Black Hawks and Pittsburgh Pirates made the arena a temporary home for the first few games during the 1928–29 NHL season. The arena was also the home of the Buffalo Bisons. On March 17, 1936, the roof collapsed after thirteen inches of heavy snowfall.
Black Rock Lock
The Black Rock Lock located in Buffalo, New York is 650 feet in length and 70 feet in wide. There is only one chamber and the total weight of the gate is 480 tons. The lock has been a part of Black Rock since the state of New York built the Erie Canal in 1833.
Battle of Frenchman's Creek
The Battle of Frenchman’s Creek took place during the War of 1812 between Great Britain and the United States in the early hours of November 28, 1812, in the Crown Colony of Upper Canada, near the Niagara River. The operation was conceived as a raid to prepare the ground for a larger American invasion. The Americans succeeded in crossing the Niagara and landing at both of their points of attack.
