Morwell is a city located in the Latrobe Valley area of Gippsland in the east of the state of Victoria in Australia approximately 149 km (93 mi) east of the state capital. HM Prison Morwell River, opened in 1951, was an open prison located near Morwell, Victoria. Inmates and prison officers (normally bitter enemies, "crims" and "screws") called a truce while working on the project. Prisoners were taken to shopping centers in Morwell and left unattended, at total liberty and on trust, to rattle their tins. Civilian clothes (rather than the shapeless "prison green" tracksuits and Dunlop sneakers) were worn.

Trafalgar is a railway station on the Bairnsdale V/Line rail service in Trafalgar, Victoria, Australia. Moe is a city in the Latrobe Valley and Gippsland region of Victoria, Australia. It is about 135 kilometres east of Melbourne and at the 2006 census Moe itself had a population of 15,582, with the Latrobe Valley within a 35 to 40 km radius if Moe having a population of approximately 120,000. It is administered by the Latrobe City Council. Moe was originally known as The Mowie, then Little Moi. The town's name is believed to derive from a Kurnai (local Indigenous) word meaning 'swamp land'.

Newborough, Victoria

Newborough is a town in the Latrobe Valley in Victoria, Australia which shares a border to its west, mostly along the Narracan Creek, with the town of Moe. It can be divided into three areas, Old Newborough, East Newborough and North Newborough. The latter two areas were developed by the State Electricity Commission of Victoria in the 1950s as residential housing for workers at the nearby Yallourn coal mining, power generation and briquette making works.

The Post Office opened on 3 September 1917 as Brown Coal Mine and was renamed Yallourn North in 1947.

Gooding railway station

Gooding was a railway station on the Walhalla narrow gauge line in Gippsland, Victoria, Australia. The station was opened in 1910 and was the lowest altitude station on the line. The station consisted of a platform area and a name board. The station was named after the Gooding family, who owned a farm in the area. Prior to 1910, the Goodings' farm had been a stopping place for coaches traveling towards Walhalla, this coach traffic ceasing after the railway opened.

Moondarra State Park

Moondarra State Park is on the northern edge of the Latrobe Valley, east of Melbourne, Australia. Proclaimed in 1986, it protects 6,992 hectares of native vegetation including Silvertop, Yertchuk, Messmate and Stringybark eucalyptus, native orchids, and Banksias. Camping and fires are permitted within the camp, in designated areas. Part of the former route of the narrow gauge Walhalla railway line can be followed through the park, forming the Moondarra Rail Trail.
