Menai Suspension Bridge
The Menai Suspension Bridge (Welsh: Pont Grog y Borth) is a suspension bridge between the island of Anglesey and the mainland of Wales. Designed by Thomas Telford and completed in 1826, it was the first modern suspension bridge in the world.
Britannia Bridge
Britannia Bridge is a bridge across the Menai Strait between the island of Anglesey and the mainland of Wales. It was originally designed and built by Robert Stephenson as a tubular bridge of wrought iron rectangular box-section spans for carrying rail traffic. Following a fire in 1970 it was rebuilt as a two-tier steel truss arch bridge, carrying both road and rail traffic.
Ynys Gored Goch
Ynys Gored Goch (trans. English: Red Weir Island also known as Whitebait Island) is a small island in the Menai Strait between Gwynedd and Anglesey in North Wales. It is situated in the stretch of the strait called the Swellies between Thomas Telford's Menai Suspension Bridge and Robert Stephenson's Britannia Bridge. The island is occupied by the main house and the converted Smoke House where the fish were processed. Access is only by boat.
Swellies
The Swellies is a stretch of the Menai Strait in North Wales. The most popular use of the name is for the stretch between the Britannia Bridge and the Menai Bridge. It is notable for its difficulty in safely navigating its shoals and rocks due to the whirlpools and surges that are the result of the tides washing around the island of Anglesey at different speeds. There are several small islands in The Swellies, the largest of which are Church Island and Ynys Gored Goch.
Ynys Castell
Ynys Castell is a small island in the Menai Strait which separates Anglesey and mainland Wales. It is an extruding piece of Precambrian schist lying to one side of the Afon Cadnant estuary. It lies between Ynys y Bîg and Ynys Gaint. There is a causeway running to the island that is covered at high tide. On the island there is a private house. Ynys Castell means Castle Island in Welsh.
Ynys Gaint
Ynys Gaint is a small island in the Menai Strait connected to the town of Menai Bridge on Anglesey by a causeway (which still exists today) and also a concrete bridge erected by Sir William Fison (a previous owner of the island) in the 1930s. Literally translated Ynys Gaint mean Kent Island. Ynys Gaint lies close to the Anglesey shore at OS reference SH561725, between Ynys Faelog and Ynys Castell.
Church Island
Church Island is a small island in the Menai Strait on the shores of Anglesey to which it is attached by a short causeway that is reachable only on foot off the Belgian Promenade. The whole 2.7 acres of the island is taken up with St Tysilio's church, constructed in the 15th century, and the churchyard. The 20th-century bard Cynan is buried in the churchyard. The Anglesey Coastal Path passes the head of the causeway.
Ysgol David Hughes
Ysgol David Hughes is the largest Secondary School in Anglesey, Wales. The school building was completed and opened in the village of Menai Bridge in 1963 by Anglesey County Council which, ten years earlier (in 1953), had become the first education authority in the UK to adopt non-selective comprehensive education.

Glannau Porthaethwy is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) along the northern shore of the Menai Strait in North Wales. It is a linear designation that extends some 4 km along the shore from Britannia Bridge in the west to Craig y Don in the east. It also includes the island shorelines of Ynys Gorad Goch, Ynys Welltog, Ynys Benlas, Ynys Tysilio, Half Tide Rock, Ynys Faelog, Ynys Tobig, Ynys Gaint, Ynys Castell and Ynys y Big.
Treborth Botanic Garden
Treborth Botanic Garden, is a botanic garden in Wales, close to the city of Bangor, Gwynedd. It is owned by Bangor University, and is used in teaching for University students, local schools and community groups. It is also open to the public without charge. It is unusual in having within the garden a large area of native established broad-leaved woodland bounded to the north by the seashore of the Menai Strait
Menai Bridge railway station
Menai Bridge railway station was situated 2 miles west of Bangor, Gwynedd in Wales. Opened on the 1st October 1858 it was a replacement for the earlier Britannia Bridge station, named after the bridge of the same name which crosses the nearby Menai Strait a couple of hundred metres to the north. The station was opened by the Chester and Holyhead Railway Company at the point where the main Chestor to Holyhead line met the Bangor and Carnarvon Railway.
