Inverness Castle

Inverness Castle sits on a cliff overlooking the River Ness, in Inverness, Scotland. The red sand stone structure evident today was built in 1836 by architect William Burn. It is built on the site of an 11th century defensive structure. Today, it houses Inverness Sheriff Court. There has been a castle at this site for many centuries. The castle itself is not open to the public but the grounds are.

Crown Church, Inverness

Crown Church is a parish church in Inverness in the Scottish Highlands, located at the junction of Midmills Road and Kingsmills Road near the city centre. The first minister (1899–1907) was the Reverend William Todd, renowned for his fervent evangelical preaching. Originally built for the Free Church of Scotland, the church buildings were completed in 1901.

Eastgate Shopping Centre (Inverness)

Eastgate Shopping Centre is located in Inverness, serving the largest shopping catchment area in Europe. The centre has two main anchor stores, Marks and Spencer and Debenhams. Inverness bus station

Inverness bus station serves and is in the city of Inverness, Scotland. The bus station is managed by the Highland Council. The bus station is situated at Farraline Park and can be accessed from Academy Street and Margaret Street. It is a short walk away from the Inverness railway station and the main shopping area. Permission was granted to demolish the existing bus station in 2000. It was then replaced with a new terminal building in the early 2000s.

Siege of Inverness (1562)

The siege of Inverness Castle took place in 1562. When Mary, Queen of Scots visited Inverness on 9 September 1562 the gates of the castle were shut in her face by Alexander Gordon upon the orders of George Gordon, 4th Earl of Huntly, who was chief of Clan Gordon and Sheriff of the county. The castle was subsequently besieged by supporters of the Queen. The siege lasted for three days and when the castle fell, Alexander Gordon was hanged for treason. His head was displayed on the castle.

Siege of Inverness (1649)

The siege of Inverness that took place in 1649 was part of the 17th century Scottish Civil War that was in itself part of the Wars of the Three Kingdoms. On the 5th of February 1649, Charles II had been proclaimed king when it was decided that Charles and his friends who were in exile should make a second attempt to recover the kingdom once again led by the royalist army leader James Graham, 1st Marquess of Montrose.

Siege of Inverness (1715)

In November 1715 during the Jacobite rising the town of Inverness and Inverness Castle were being held by the Clan Mackenzie, led by Sir John Mackenzie of Coul who supported the rebel Jacobite cause. Sir Simon Fraser of Lovat, chief of Clan Fraser besieged them, supported by the Clan Rose and Clan Forbes. The Clan MacDonald of Keppoch were also Jacobites and attempted to relieve their allies the Mackenzies, however their path was blocked by the Frasers.
