Cascabel (roller coaster)

Located at 19.4, -99.28 (Lat. / Lng.), less than 5 mi away.
More reading: Wikipedia Article

Cascabel is a steel shuttle roller coaster that has been at Chapultepec Park in Mexico City since 1991. In 1991, Chapultepec park received the coaster from Kennywood amusement park, near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where the coaster was named "Laser Loop". Chapultepec park would rename the coaster to "Cascabel" (Spanish for "rattle", in reference to a rattlesnake). Laser Loop was Kennywood's first looping roller coaster, it was built in 1980 by the German Anton Schwarzkopf - the same man who would eventually build Kennywood's Raging Rapids in the winter of 1984. It was built on the site of the old Skooter building above the park entrance, but was removed after the 1990 season to make room for the Steel Phantom. As the ride grew older, costs of maintenance began to outweigh the benefits of the Laser Loop. During its last season at Kennywood, the Laser Loop was closed frequently due to problems with the flywheel & clutch system used to propel the ride. It would eventually be replaced by the Steel Phantom in 1991, which maintained a few of the Laser Loop's features like a vertical loop and fast re-entry to the station.

Metro Observatorio is a station on Line 1 of the Mexico City Metro system. It is located in the Álvaro Obregón borough of Mexico City, west of the city centre. This station is the western terminus of Line 1. The station logo represents the stylised dome of an astronomical observatory. It is named after the National Astronomical Observatory of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México located at the top of a hill near the station. However due to the light pollution that came as a consequence of urban growth hardly any observations were done in the observatory, and thus was transformed into a planetarium. Previously on the site was a colonial palace that belonged to the city's Bishop. This station is one of the most important metro terminals in the city. It serves Mexico City's western bus depot, which connects with areas of western Mexico such as México state, Michoacán, Jalisco, Querétaro and others. The Observatorio Mexico City Metro station is the 1st station of Line 1 and the Mexico City Metro system. Service at this station began June 10, 1971. This Mexico City Metro train station is underground. The trains take passengers to Tacubaya, Juanacatlán, Chapultepec, Sevilla, Insurgentes, Cuáuhtemoc, Balderas, Salto del Agua, Isabel la Catolica, Pino Suárez, Merced, Candelaria, San Lazaro, Moctezuma, Balbuena, Boulevard Puerto Aéreo, Gómez Farías, Zaragoza, and Pantitlán Mexico City Metro stations. Originally line 9 had its plans to end here, even pictograms in line 1 showed this station as a transfer station for line 9. But for an unknown reason the station wasn't built and the line 9 finished at Tacubaya.

The Panteón Civil de Dolores is the largest cemetery in Mexico and contains the "Rotonda de las Personas Ilustres" (Rotunda of Illustrious Persons). It is located on Constituyentes Avenue in Miguel Hidalgo borough of Mexico City, between sections two and three of Chapultepec Park. The history of the cemetery goes back to 1870 when Juan Manuel Benfield, owner of El Rancho de Coscoacoaco (his wife was Concepción Gayosso y Mugarrieta sister of Eusebio Gayosso) set aside an area of his ranch measuring 240 square hectometres, called La Tabla de Delores, on which to found a cemetery. In 1875, the cemetery was opened and named El Panteon Civil de Dolores. Juan Manuel Benfield founded the Cemetery in honor of his sister who died in Veracruz shortly after she had arrived from London with their parents. As they were Anglicans, and all cemeteries in Veracruz were consecrated for use only by Roman Catholics, the only suitable burial ground to be had was on the beach. Today the cemetery has about 700,000 tombs, many with multiple occupants.
